Is It Worth It?
Anyone remember I posted about a black supercharged 2005 Monte not too long ago? I said the Chevy dealer not far from my job had the car. It has 65,000 miles on it and they wanted $13,000 for the car. A lot of you posted it was too much for this car and I could do better.
One of our drivers saw me looking this car over and told me of another black Monte on his route for sale. So yesterday I went looking for this car. It's a black 2001 Pace car. It has 45,6xx miles on it and the seller wants $9200 for the car. She said $8500 would buy it.
I haven't driven the car (and from the looks of the rust on the rotors she hasn't either) but she let me look inside, start the engine and generally check the car out. I did notice some nice hairy scratches on the body and bumpers. Plus one that runs length wise across the sun roof. I think I can get most of them out if I decide I really want this car?
The seller said she got the car at a used car lot in Lima, OH two years ago with 15,000 on the odometer.
Everything looks pretty good about the car. The trans even seemed to shift decent when I placed it in driver and reverse.
I just wish the price were more like $6,000 or $6,500.

I've been looking for a ruined Pace Car to steal the interior out of!! haha
If it were me, I would say that's a good deal. KBB lists a normal SS of that year / mileage at $6,400-$6,800. So adding the fact that it is a Pace Car, with the special interior / gauge cluster I think it could be worth close to $8k.
I say if you could talk it down to $8 because of the marks on the car and show the KBB of a normal and tell that the interior alone is not worth the 1.5k it would be a great deal.

Also you could make this one your DD and actually mod the 3.8 like you would want to mod it for the '03 without worrying about ruining the stock greatness of your collector version :P

I did notice something like an oil film on the top motor mounts. The engine looks really clean in the car, not like it'd just been cleaned mind you but it makes me wonder where this film came from?
Could it just be normal road debris she picked up driving 30,000 miles?
Maybe I should have looked under the engine for leaks and THEN decided if her $8500 offer was worth considering or............. making my own offer from there.

Ask if you can bring a grease remover and see if it comes off. Maybe the engine was detailed and it just left a film on the dog bones? I know when I cleaned my engine, I had to go over everything because it was kind of greasy.

I think $13,000 for a 2005 supercharged Monte Carlo is a damned decent price! I paid $9,500 for my '03 SS, highsport edition, had 54,000 miles on it, and that price was a steal.
I was actually just browsing the lot, I was in desperate need of a new car and I was just checking out their inventory. The salesman drug me inside and showed me a few possibilities in my price range, the look of that '03 SS intimidated me, I thought it was out of my price range and how my father warned me about buying used sports cars.
Apparently that car had just been moved to the current lot and a young lady was coming by to pick up the car at 5pm, she had the money. It was 4pm and they were ready to sell the car to me, I had work at 5pm. So in 45 minutes I bought the car, didn't even test drive it. They drove it home for me and then I took it to work, first night out, I was only 5 minutes late too!
Regardless of how stupid I was on buying the car so fast, I have no regrets. And I often wish I had gotten the S/C monte instead, so $13,000 for an '05 supercharged was very accurately priced is my whole point. But you can still topswap the '01 for the money you'll save, so I guess it all works out!
