my gf's laptop just crashed so she'll pry be getting it by the end of the saturday. might be a little while before i could give a subjective review but i'll let everyone in the MCF family know what i think. i told her i'm glad she's getting it before me so she can be the guinea pig, haha. i'll be in the market for a new laptop in a year or so, mine is ~5yrs old now.

i also know a handfull of IT people so i'll talk to them and see what they think too.

One thing i read is that Windows 7 is going to have the same problems with running stuff made for XP. It sead taht there is going to be a Virtual Machine that will run in XP mode. But i am really skeptical about it. I have way to many programs that run on XP and cant afford to upgrade them to 7.

I guess only time will tell.

So if Windows 7 won't run XP programs how are those of us with XP suppose to upgrade to Windows 7?

And doesn't You Tube state on their web site they phasing out support for the older Windows programs soon?

7 should run all Vista programs. It's the same programming architecture and "guts."

I'll probably wait until after Microsoft has released the first Service Pack for Windows 7 before I try to install it on my PC. You know how there always seems to be bugs that need to be fixed on a new operating system.

I've also heard on a weekly computer radio show that I listen to that XP users won't be able to do a simple upgrade to Windows 7, like you did from Windows 98 or Windows ME to Windows XP. Instead, you have to do a "clean install" of Windows 7, which means that everything on your hard drive will be erased before Windows 7 gets installed. So, XP users should be sure to transfer any important files, documents, photos and music to another storage medium (like CDs, DVDs or an external hard drive) before you install Windows 7.

I don't see me making the leap to Win 7. It has very few new features, compared to vista, and the only thing I find good about it is the new user interface. I'll keep my Vista 64.

I feel upgrades are bad, cause it removes files and stuff, and then installs over it. fresh installs are better and cleaner. from the reviews i have heard is that windows 7 is vista without all the super bells and whistles, this allowed them to basically put out a windows without all the fkd up features of vista.

I linked the 64 version of windows 7 and its OEM, its thw whole program not just the upgrade. When I build my next computer it will have windows 7.
