When your car was new...
Simple question:
What were you doing when your car was new?
My current family...
1972:
I was a year away from making my earthly debut.
1976:
I was 3 years old. I welcomed my parents' first Monte Carlo to the family, a 1976 model that I "claimed" as "mine" in later years. I was also a year away from my first open heart surgery.
1979:
I welcomed my baby sister to the world.
1981:
I finished first grade in the spring; started second grade in the fall.
1987:
I was in middle school ... and had to say goodbye to my best friend who died of an asthma attack.
Former members...
1988:
I finished middle school and entered the world of High School. I first started thinking about having one of every single YEAR of the Monte Carlo. I later re-thought that ... with the goal of one of each generation, which I completed March 2002.
1997:
I started my first full-time job, after graduating from college a year earlier. I also put my '79 MC Landau (first car) away for the winter and bought a new "daily driver".
2000:
I was one Monte Carlo away from completing the family, having bought the '81 MC SC from my parents December 1999 and the '76 MC Landau a year before that; I've never bought a Monte Carlo brand new. I was still working at the same company, but had switched jobs in late 1999, about the same time I bought the 2000 vehicle. Health wise, I was (unbeknownst to me at the time) 3 years away from my 3rd open heart surgery.

2006: I was a year into college, took a great trip to Missouri with my sister (in my previous Cavalier), and quit my first job at Linens N Things, to start my current job with the staffing company.

What were you doing when your car was new?
The gleam in my dad's eye. Cause I wasn't born till 1958.
1981 Monte.
I was 23 years old. I was dating Diana (she was 19) and working at a tool & die shop. My parents and Diana's became friends after we started dating even though her dad and mine both worked at Chrysler at the time. The tool & die job was a 10 hr work day. Not easy for a young guy to be cooped up all day long when most were out partying.
1986 Monte.
I was 28 years old. Now I was dating Maureen (she was 5 years older then I). Still at the tool & die shop but by now I'd ruined my right hand at work and was about to be fired cause I couldn't perform my job anymore. I was still taking classes at the community college something I'd been doing since 1980. But I wouldn't get serious about a degree till 1987 and graduate in 1990. I even went back for another year after graduation.
2003 Monte.
I'm an old, middle aged person now. 45 years old. Never married, no kids. Debbie & I had been together for a long time though. I am now working for UPS. I liked the looks of the new body on the 2000 Montes, but I know I won't be able to affird one till 2010. (this year) I mean I won't be able to afford a 2000 Monte till it's 10 years old. Money is why.
2006 Monte.
Now I'm really old. (48) but in my favor I own my very own fleet of collector cars plus a 1986 Monte Carlo. Say what you want, I know for a fact if not for God that I would have never been able to afford a new (N-E-W) car. Somehow it worked out. I was able to buy a 2006 Monte while it was still 2006. My first new car in 20 years. i've got a ton of hopes and dreams for this car. I definately want to take care of it. Somehow, something happened and things changed??????? The car becomes another toy. It get's pampered almost like it's already a collector car. Barely driven. Sets inside covered up most of the time. Cleaned when it's barely dusty. I have a sickness. Montethelioma - a sickeness of the mind. Owners crave the Chevy Monte Carlo and anything attached to it. No known cure. Infected persons can only be made comfortable until such time as a cure can be found. Until then, the inforected person must be surrounded with many Chevy Monte Carlos, parts for one, literature connected to the Monte, as well as photos-posters-videos-and such.

Well lets see... in 1968, the year of my Ford Torino I was in Alpha Gamma 842 straightening out a boundary dispute between the Minkas and the Ewoks over which constellation marked the boundaries for their respective galaxies. Some $@(& went down, and it took awhile, but it all came out okay.
In 2003, with my Monte Carlo, I was 14 years old trying to finish up 7th grade and started the 8th grade.
