Hey guys, so I've decided to go ahead and do cams in my mustang before I start doing things like suspension and supercharger. I think I'm going to do the Hot rod cams from FRPP. They are an NSR cam, so I don't need springs or anything like that. They are supposed to yield decent gains of about 20-30HP. However I'm going with them just because of the sound. What do you guys think?

Nope, mine has 2. I think the last mustang engine to have a single cam was the old 5.0

Once that engine went away and they started making the 2v 4.6L they had 2 cams. Then in the 2000's the cobra got a 4v 2 cam along with the Mach 1 in 2003-2004. Then in 2003 and 2004 the terminator got an all forged 4v 2 cam set up. Then my body style cam out and they went to a 2 cam 3v set up. and now the new 5.0 has 4 cams again. They have been all over the place with cams lol

That's the nice thing about these cams. They sound like a massive set of cams. But they don't even require new springs or anything like that. So they are pretty small cams all things considered. So you get the big cam sound without any of the downside to a big cam. The only downside to them, that I have seen, is you don't get any huge gains in power like you would a massive cam.

A little after the fact, but you should always replace the lifters, springs, retainers and locks when you install a higher lift cam in a previously stock engine. The additional lift of the new cam may be all it takes to break a worn, fatigued spring. BTW - did you check for spring binding at full lift? You ever see the cylinder wall of an engine that dropped a valve? It's not a pretty sight. The majority of the time the scoring on the walls is so bad the engine is basically a paper weight. Another reason to replace all of the above is it also gives you access to replace the stem seals. Again, the higher lift cam will elongate the (old, worn) seals (and wear out the guides) and the engine will start burning oil.

Eh, I'm not to worried about that haha. The car will be getting supercharged probably by the end of the year. So that will eliminate the power issue haha
