Default Is it unlawful

Ok so, I bought my 2000 Monte Carlo SS from a local dealer in like July of this year for 4 grand, I already know I probably paid too much.
I just found out last week that it has two recalls that haven't been adressed on it, the engine and engine cooling recall ( # 80266 ) and the fuel system, gasoline: delivery recall ( 75987 )
My question is:
Is it unlawful for that dealer to have sold me that Monte Carlo USED without the recall issues fixed?

i'm not sure about unlawful, but at least ethically, it seems very wrong to me. doesn't say much for the reputation for the dealership. i would take it back to the dealer and tell them you're not leaving til the recalls are fixed. if i'm right, i THINK it won't even cost them any money because GM will reimburse the dealership for at least the parts and maybe the labor too.

in my experiences, it seems dealers are always try to rip you off somehow wether it's on your trade-in, repairs, warranties, etc. therefore i'm always wary. if that dealer won't fix it for you, tell them you will take your business elsewhere. usually there is another dealer that is willing to do something another won't.

If it is a recall, I would take it to your local Chevy dealer, and have them fix it. I personally would prefer a Chevy dealer to do the recall repair. If you did in fact buy from a GM dealer, then it should not be an issue, just take the car back and tell them your need the recalls fixed. Recalls should not cost you a penny, and any GM dealer should be able to fix them at no cost to you.

Like said above, illegal? nah, unethical? Possible, but if it's a small used car lot they really aren't going to delve into the past of the car THAT much. Now if they sold you a car that had a salvaged title as a clean titled car, then we're talking illegal. If it was a Chevy dealer hat's just plain lazy then! first thing my dealer did when they got my car in was research any open campaigns or recalls.

So take the car to a local Chevy dealer and ask if there are any open recalls or campaigns and set up an appointment to get the work done.

Hope the future ownership of your car removes the bad taste that the start has left in your mouth!

I agree with JAFO. Your typical used car dealership isn't going to go that far into every single car they get. They usually have a quick turn over rate. Getting cars on and off the lot as quickly as possible.

Oh, I went to my local Chevy dealer yesterday, waited a 2 and a half hours and I did buy it from a used car lot.
But I'm just kind of looking for a way to **** them over, $4000 for this car is a little overboard. All my friends told me I should've haggled down to $3200.
When I bought the car, they told me to avoid bringing one of the forms to the local RMV to avoid paying the taxes on registering the Monte Carlo, they didn't use their own dealership stamp too. They used one from another dealership that they were "owned by". The motor in the passenger window wasn't working for a few days but then my friend ****ed with the button and it's been working since.

I guess I'm just being maniacal and looking to get back at them :P

As Mike has proved with his short lived protest of anythingauto.com, word of mouth is a good way. Let everyone you see in your town how you feel about what the dealership did to you. And/Or go to the BBB and let them know your displeasure. That being said they didn't exactly make you buy the car. You just didn't look into it as much as you should have before signing the paperwork. Not bashing you, I've done the same. I paid more for a vehicle... or two then I later thought I should have but at the moment I wanted the vehicle bad enough that the price seemed fair. You just live and learn. Good luck!
