Twilight Zone: This Is How You'll See In The Future

Limited visibility, whether due to darkness, obstructed views, or inclement weather, has always been one of the biggest challenges for drivers ... and automakers. Car companies have addressed this issue in various ways over the years -- with brighter headlights, reduced blind spots and a variety of other technologies to enhance visibility. Some of their current offerings might seem like science fiction, but many automotive manufacturers are selling or developing systems to make driving a safer process. So, how will we better see from inside our vehicles into the next decade and beyond?

Didn't have time to read the article. But I imagine that eventually there would be full color night vision. So there wouldn't be a problem of blinding on-coming traffic with ever-increasingly bright headlights. And no need to install miles of wiring and street lights.

Sidebar: The city of Detroit already has many areas where no street lighting exists! Cost saving measure decision made decades ago.

...Thanks `Lou, it's sad that many of our cities/states are really hurting & don't have the funds to keep their roads, lights & improvements

If you get the time the above link has some great improvements to night driving ~> plus.

GM is really investing time & money in2 their projects.
I do like their heads`up display...

For Environmental Science class not too long ago, we traveled to the NC State Solar House engineering project for a visit... one of the things they have experimented with is replacing the lines in the road with lights that absorb energy during the day to illuminate during the night... of course, it would have to have batteries to store energy from rainy days and even be hooked to the power grid for extended days of storms right now... but it is a possibility of replacing the lines iwth lights to enhacne visibility. Anymore, car headlights are so bright I can't see the lines in the roads on certain ones where the lines are worn out when a car is coming at me.. sometimes I think my vision is getting worse, which I'm again (20, hehe) so it could be, but sometimes I don't know if it is just my eyes are teh danged headlights that are so bright these days!
