Good morning MCF!!
In memory of our Moderator David "STUMPMI" Smith, let's all take a moment to reflect on something that our buddy Space would say "What if?" Hope everyone has a great day. Make it count!! :) |
The words are difficult when a respected member is lost.
One can only celebrate the good moments that you may have experienced and shared with Dave. Embrace his memory the same way he did with his disability. :) Will take a few minutes to say a prayer in his Honor today! |
Good morning guys.
I knew Dave personally for 4.5 years. Dave was the type of guy that would go out of his way for anybody. He always offered Matt (Slugger088) a place to stay after our Meets since Matt makes the drive from the Toronto area 4+ hours away. Dave always had a story to tell. He liked to joke around and laugh. He was very into cars and bikes. I know he had a rough time when he sold his 99 Z-34 but he was super excited for the trike that he eventually bought. I know for him it was a big deal to get back on a bike after his motorcycle accident 15+ years ago. He made the trip to Monte Nationals in 2013. I remember we had rain move through several times. Dave was about to pack up and go home since he had a difficult time cleaning and detailing on one leg. Once other attendees heard this, a bunch of people came together and helped dry off and clean up his car. I know he was very appreciative of that. |
Hello all.
I never knew Dave personally, only through the forum. His online presence seemed as big as his life. He always offered advice and opinions. He never hesitated to respond to direct questions. He seemed like a really nice guy! |
I remember when I was still an admin, and we needed a couple new moderators, the staff discussed potential new moderators. David was one of the first names mentioned. Everyone agreed that David was an excellent choice. He had the knowledge, experience with cars, and wasn't going to take crap from people. I was honored when he accepted our offer, and I changed his status to moderator. And anybody who proudly drives a 5th gen Monte can't be all bad. He was a gear head. He was into cars, motorcycles, you name it. After he lost his leg, he made it his goal to get back on a bike someday. And after finding a bike he liked, he got it converted to a trike, and he was back where he wanted to be. On the open road with the wind in his face.
I was shocked when I heard the news about David around 2:00am Monday morning. I was hoping it was a really bad joke. When I got confirmation a couple hours later, I couldn't believe it. He just posted something on facebook earlier that day (sunday). You'll be missed David. It was an honor being a moderator with you. |
