Beautiful cars, loving the Torino
|
They're both lookin' good, Duane! :congrats:
|
pretty sweet Duane, nice pics.....

They both look great Duane. Especially the Torino. I remember seeing the before pictures when you first got it. It takes a lot of work to make it look like you didn't do anything. (making it look like it did the day it rolled off the assembly line)

Very cool Duane!

Thanks for the compliments, guys. I thoguht you would enjoy them. That trunk bag is very handy. I just bought it a couple of weeks ago. It really makes the trunk a lot more organized. Those of us who have done car shows, cruise ins, or just want to keep a car clean know how much trouble it is keeping up with your tire shine, spray wax, interior detailing, and shop towel.s Having that stuff scattering all over your trunk is a mess to keep looking tidy at a show. Having that plaid bag to match the trunk makes that bag look like it belongs. I used to have to set all that stuff on the ground behind my car to keep the trunk looking tidy, not anymore!! It's great, I love it. Not pictured in there is my 204 piece Craftsman tool set that every Ford owner carries with them at all times.
Most people do seem to gravitate towards the fastback Torino over the Fairlane when we go to shows together. It's just got that sporty look, big engine, and color that stands out to most people apparently. Occasionally though, someone just loves my dads car because a Fairlane coupe that was more a standard car back in the day sometimes bring out more memories from people than a fastback Torino does, actually. Always an interesting experience. And the pictures Taz is referring to is from nearly 3 years ago now. I'll probably post this again on my cars anniversary, April 9, 2009. But this is the first day I had the car. I already had the tail lights, logos, and antenna off. I was ready to go!! http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ningDuane2.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...ningDuane2.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...Taillights.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...Beginning1.jpg The Fairlane started out looking like this. No rust, was actually a running car. We went through the engine, did a little body work, installed new carpet, and took off with it. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e.../torino2-1.jpg |
Duane you should be proud of your accomplishment. Both cars look awesome. Every time I see one I want to kick myself for letting my 68 Torino GT ragtop go away.

Just another to add to the collection, Gregg!! We've been trying to convince my mother to let us put a quick paint job on a 4 door Torino or a station wagon for her to have a car to drive, but she won't have it.

Hi `Duane,
I admire your abilities & dedication to your restoration of your Torino 4-Sure...Thanks for posting/sharing... Now, lets spend some time on your Monte Carlo  It's needs some love 2  Look 4ward to updates on your S.S. |
they both look awesome!!! yes trunk bags are an amazing thing for cleaning supplies at car shows! lol
|
And having a trunk bag that matches that mat is great! The Monte Carlo.... man, I almost waxed it a few weeks ago, but what it really needs is paint. It's got a spot of clearcoat peeling off the hood. So I'm not waxing it.. want to wear as much off as I can, wipe it down, and I'm going to paint it in the second week of April.
That gold Fairlane was actually for sale long before we ever got the Torino in April '09. It was sitting on US 1 in Wake Forest, NC, which is a major highway in those parts, for sale for a VERY long time. It would sit out there for a few months, then ti would disappear. Then it would come back, then it would disappear... well the Torino was restored in '10, and in October that year, my dad was riding by there after we had finished the Torino, saw it, and finally decided he was going to just stop and look at it himself. Dad talked him down to $4000. The car was running, had interior, just needed body work and some carpet. WE pulled the engine, all new gaskets, checked out everything (that engine was like new), and put 'er back in. Then we painted it, buffed it out, and kept on getting at it with that car too. |
Very nice. There nothing like a old school ride
|
Looks Great
|
They look great together Duane! Glad you could have a project like tht to work on with your Dad. Wish I could've done that.
|
Nice. One of the guys in my Reserve unit has a Fairlane that is his daily driver. I think it's a 72. I really want an old Cougar myself. I've always liked the first generation.

I'll second that. Also, it's great to see two classic cars back on the road instead of going to the crusher. |
They're on the road too. I'm approcahing 6,000 miles on that Torino, since we got the Fairlane in 2010, it has about 3000-3500 miles... but not all those miles are since restoration.
And I know how forutnate I am to have my dream car and to have had the dad I do to guide me on this path. |
68 Torino
HI Cowboy. I know the white Ford is a 1968 Torino. But the other Ford you say is a 1968 also??? I thought only the 1969 Fairlanes & Torino's came with the hood scoop ? I had both after totaling my fastback. I bought a 68 Fairlaine. Not till 1969 Did I see that scoop. I was at Desert Valley auto parts here in Phoenix. They have their own show on TV. I saw 3 fastback Torino's while we were there. I wish I still had mine. :(
|
You're right. The hood scoop didn't come out until '69. A foremr owner put that on the car nad drilled the hood up to install it, so the only real options were to buy a new hood or use the scoop. It looks cool, but I do'nt really like driving with it... kind of a distraction.

Both look great!:)

Hi `Duane, It's great to read that you are going to give your Award winning Monte a paint `job & some love...You are fortunate to have the talent & tools to get the job done. Wish you a problem free paint job  Look forward to seeing your progress pic's and final pic's ~> Good Luck  |
Thank you guys.
Hey Spac,e I'm surprised you didn't make some sort of demon eyes picture with those LED ligths in the back of my car..... |
