Well im back from this mornings nonsense with less than spectacular news all around. The monte's struts are leaking pretty bad and needs replacements. $484 parts and labor
certainly dont have that laying around, gonna have to see if my parents can help.
The job didn't go well either, i walked in to find human resources women adn i asked her about the night crew and immediately she told me to go talk to someone else. I told her i talked to the night manager and he said talk to you, shes like nope he has no say in what happens go talk to so and so. Was like she didn't want to hear anything. So i go find this other guy and all he tells me is he didn't forget but he has to wait until another manager (one of mine) comes back from vacation to see if she can fill my spot if i leave. Talk about a freakin run around
Hope the rest of my day is better.
Jerry good to hear it sounds like your wife is doing ok.

My new purchase Plymouth Duster is in Slydell, La. As we speak. I am expecting delivery either tonight when I get off work or tomorrow morning.
Space I would like to work on my Monte. I am resisting that until I can do it right. There were only 3027 Turbo Monte Carlos built in 1981. Most of them were beat and abused and when the turbo motor blew up it was yanked in favor of a V-8. The Turbo Monte is probably the rarest Monte ever built. It is at least the rarest fourth gen Monte. If I put in a V-8 and use the parts that I have collected I could make a nice Monte. In the process however I would destroy some very rare GM history. Unfortunately their is very little support for restoring a turbo Monte and the value of the car is relatively low. It is sort of like restoring a stock 71 Chevy Vega. Nobody cares enough to make parts and share info. I want to preserve this piece of GM history. I am still collecting parts and still trying to find the answers I don't have.
Questions that I have yet to answer about my car:
1.) how do I document how it was built? (all the data sheets that were with the car when built are gone. What color is it supposed to be? Right now it is two tone blue. What wheels did it have? Right now it's got some chrome mag wheels. I've gotten two of the checker flag wheels that were available but I don't know if they came on this car. I would hate to do the car and then find out it isn't right.
2.) is the top of the engine the same between 80 and 81. I bought the top half of an 80 Monte thinking I got all the parts I needed. Someone from another Monte site sayes they are different but didn't elaborate as to what is different and what is the same.
3.) I need a pair of front fenders that had the cornering lights. I have two sets of the plain fenders.
4.) I'd like to know how rare my car is. With Mopars you can document this. I have a 1974 Dodge Charger Rallye. The car was built with zero options as the Rallye was its own model line in the Charger line up. My car is Rallye red with a 318/3 spd. Standard on the column, with a bench seat. Yes it's three on the tree. Turns out that with all the Dodge Chargers built in 1974, I own the only one built with this combination.
My Monte is loaded with T-Tops, a/c, power windows, seats, door locks, cruise control, tilt wheel, some type of electronic mirror, racing mirrors, and a bunch of other stuff. It has two wiper switches (one on dash and one on column) so I think the column got changed out at some point as well as the upholstery and the head liner and door panels. I think someone was going to build a low rider with it at one point but never butchered the frame. It may have been stolen at one time which may explain a different column. It has been wrecked at one time because the LR quarter panel has been changed out.
Just so you understand I am serious about doing this car. The cowl and A pillars are rusted out because the T-Tops leak. I have acquired another rust free 85 Monte T-Top body and chassis. I am going to swap the 85 Body onto the 81 frame so that I will be restoring an 81 Monte Turbo. I have sourced the soft parts and they are all available to do this car right. I have a bunch of monte parts that I have collected because I grab them when I find them but don't know if they should all be on this car. My 74 Charger is sitting in the back yard too because I can't find rear quarters for it. Eventually I will find them and then that car will come together too.

Keane; you are a fairly talented guy. If you can make a computer work in an aquarium you can change struts on your Monte. It isn't rocket science. The tools required are fairly basic. Go price out a set of loaded struts. Loaded means that they come with new springs and new strut bearings already assembled. The procedure for the change out is fairly basic. The only real technical part of the whole thing is remembering to put the strut spindle bolts and washers/cam back the same way you removed it. Then after reassembly take the car immediately to an alignment shop for a front end alignment. I did them on my 95 Town & Country last year (that's how I learned about the cam washers as I did that part wrong) and save about 400.
Great info Gregg. Now know what you got going on. Good Luck. Looks like the Charger quarters would be available, but since not now I am sure they will be soon. Afterall it is a MOPAR..
OMG I'm watching "My Strange Addiction" and this is the episode where the guy is in love with his 5th Gen Monte Carlo - the Car's name is Chase YIKES!!!!
For my project cars I keep a mental list of what I need and I grab it when I see it. Last week I bought a NOS quarter panel for my 81 Dodge Diplomat coupe. I posted on a Mopar forum over a year ago I was looking for that. This was the first lead I got for that. I know eventually I will get the info I need on the Monte too and then it will be game on. Until then I putter with what I've got and have fun.
