Your not the only one lookin for a place... my fiance and I are renting a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom townhouse right now and our rent is a lil over $1200 a month! Our lease is up in April but we have to let them know if we are going to renew our lease in February. But UGH daycare teachers dont make squat for pay so we don't know what we are gonna do. But I wish you good luck in finding a place.

 

I just wanna say that I think owning over renting is way over rated.

 

The newer mobile homes are ok, but the older they are the worse they are. If you buy an oder one, say over 10 years old, make sure it has not had any water leaks (most floors are particle board). '80s and older models may still have the grey water pipe, if it does - run, it WILL leak if it hasn't already. They should have had it replaced for free like we did but not everyone knew about it. Insulation in the older ones suck, period. Ours is an '84 Solitaire which is a really good brand but we've had lot's of repairs to make over the years since we bought it in '88. We're planning to build - someday. I've always thought of a mobile home as a temporary house - they are not built to last like a real house is. Ours is all electric, electric heat is EXPENSIVE and we live where the winters are fairly mild (Texas). Mother in law's is gas and is much better less expensive to heat. Propane is also expensive for a furnace. You'll need to underpin it VERY well or possums and coons will get in the subfloor - there goes what insulation there is and the duct work, been there done that.
My son is trying to decide if he wants to buy a house or keep renting an apartment.
Apartment - cons: neighbors too close, no yard, no garage pros: no yard to have to keep up and most bills paid, upkeep paid
Buy - cons: yard to keep up, taxes, insurance, it breaks you pay to fix, you pay all bills
pros: it's yours, garage, yard
Good luck in your decision. If you are set on buying, why not look sor a small, fixer up starter home?
