DAYTON, Ohio -- Police said a Mason teenager was arrested one hour before a crash in which his car went airborne and slammed into a concrete pillar.
Brennan S. Eden, 19, of Mason, Ohio, lost control of his car and slammed into the concrete pillar along Interstate 675 in Sugarcreek Township about 7:15 a.m. Monday, investigators said.
The force of the crash broke the car into three pieces, and Eden was ejected. He remains in critical condition.
Beavercreek police issued a release Tuesday stating that Eden had been arrested at 6:13 a.m. on the morning of the crash. Officers said they found Eden and a juvenile female in his car in a parking lot near the corner of Beaver Vu Drive and North Fairfield Road.
Officers said Eden was found to be in possession of an unopened can of alcohol, a trace of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Police said Eden was cooperative and did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the arrest.
Officers released Eden at 6:54 a.m.
About 20 minutes later, witnesses said Eden was passing other drivers at speeds of at least 100 mph. He crashed when he drove off the left side of the roadway while passing a Sugarcreek Township police car. The crash was caught on that officer's cruiser camera.

"He went down into the median, into the grass, hit the guardrail, went airborne and the car hit the center post of the bridge and literally exploded into three main pieces," said witness Mark Riley.
Police said Eden was alert and conscious after the crash and was flown to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight.
"He is very lucky to still be alive at this point," said Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Marty Fellure. "You can see behind me the impact he took and where he got ejected and landed. He's a very fortunate man right now."
Fellure said they are still investigating the crash, trying to determine the driver's speed and why he was passing cars on the berm.

Wow, that is insane, amazing that he is still alive, I know a while back there was a story of a guy who lauched his G8 into the roof of a building, that car looked more intact and that driver died on the scene...Wierd how things work out...
Police obviously have some explaining to do with how he was arrested an hour earlier and yet managed to launch his car into an over pass just a lil while later...Would be ironic if the dude tries to sue if the cops let him go if he was supposed to be arrested...

...Hi `Joe,It was the first thing I seen this morning when I got off my night shift & it sure was a wild flying FireBird 4-Sure...
He was lucky (I think), that he car spun & the major impact was on the passenger's center/rear of his firebird...I don't think he would still `be
`if the impact was on the driver's side....It's also amazing that no other vehicles around him were damaged....I've watched the vid a view times, and the other driver's made some great defensive moves....
I hope `if he survives this accident that the court orders him to have a Mental evaluation....To me it was like he was driving on a Suicide mission.....
Hope EveryOne reading this is careful out their on their highways of `life...There's kid's like me out there that shouldn't be on the Road

I agree greatly, I know i did some very stupid stuff antithetical really lucky. sadly though, I still know many people who still do that and are my age and haven't been lucky. I hope this guy learned his lesson.
According to Eden's Facebook page, he works as a shift manager at a United Dairy Farmers in Mason and plans to graduate from the Art Institute of Cincinnati in 2011 with a degree in filmmaking.
He graduated from Mason High School in 2009, according to his Facebook page.

Reported in surgery & in critical condition...Parents requested that no further information be disclosed to public.
Vid made me `think 4-Sure....

yeahh I saw this on GMF & the news yesterday. I just shook my head & was like wow, if you can't control a car going that fast then you most def should not be driving that fast. Thank goodness no one else got involved bcuz you know they would have died bcuz it's usually only the dumb ones who survive *rolls eyes*
Hmm I know it wasn't mentioned, but I wonder if he was perhaps trying to commit suicide....I mean he went straight off the road into that median, right in front of a cop...so either he was under the influence, fell a sleep or tried to kill himself...even if he got a blowout at that speed I don't think he'd go into that median like that without slamming on the brakes really hard...
