Good morning everyone! The weather looks like it's going to clear up here in SouthSide VA, bringing us a week of cool clear days. I am looking forward to it!


No major plans today, just chillin' with the family.


I have a dilemma at work that I could use some advice on. A few years ago I went back to school and got my Electronics degree and have been working as a Control Technician for a major cosmetic manufacturing facility. In the Spring of 2015 our company officially promoted me to a Control Tech position and moved us, the 5 control tech's, to a separate department to concentrate solely on automation projects, robotics, machine controls programing, and the like. It is a great job that leaves me feeling satisfied at the end of the day. It is exactly the job I wanted when I started my schooling.


My boss, the Director of Automation for America, expects us to act and perform at the Engineer level even though we are still hourly. I have been ok with that till now. Here is the problem. We have been given a peer review assignment where we must asses the other 4 Techs. The review is asking questions that in my opinion only should be discussed between the boss and employees in private. It also asked us to rank the Tech's in order 1-5 (best to worse). I am uncomfortable being honest with the review because I don't feel like I should rate any of my coworkers. My first thought is too just rate us all Good across the board and refuse to rank us. Is a peer review for hourly associates normal in other companies? How should I handle this?

I do not like peer review either but when I had to do them, I was just as honest as I could be based on how the other people did when I worked with them. It is difficult but they have a tendency to choose supervisors from your responses based on those reviews. The ability to be objective yet provide constructive criticism is something the big dogs really look for.

Afternoon all. I wouldn't be too comfortable having to rate my coworkers, but i guess just be as fair and honest as possible.

In other news i can't believe no one won the powerball jackpot last night. Going to to like $1.3 billion now, crazy

Tommy I don't like the idea of having to review my peers either, but it is probably a test more for you and your peers to see just how objective you are and like Barbara said they are looking more into it than just a peer review.
