i replaced the rear stockers in my '97 because one was blown, replaced 'em with el cheapo $25 6X9 3 way wall mart speakers (VR3 or something) and was amazed at the differance, they sound awsome! wound up replacing the fronts with some sony explodes i got for free just to try and get more even sound quality.

I have kenwood 6x9s that came stock with my monte, but I have Rockford Fosgate 6x9s and they sound AMAZING! Super clean sounding. Looking into getting some RF tweeters to go along with my system just to make it crispier.
But the stock ones are pretty decent, but different radios don't make much difference, unless you spend the bucks on one with lots of different settings.

I like my stock sound system. It sounds pretty nice at a moderate volume. I might add a powered sub in the future tho.
