Default The Second Amendment

In light of he recent tragedy, how do you feel about the right to bear arms? Do you capitalize on it? What are the pros and cons? What situation/conditions in life make you utilize this constitutional guarantee? I'd really like to get this topic rolling and get some exposure to this subject.

I have no problem with the right to bear arms. In the hands of those who are capable of using them properly, and for the right reasons. The question is, where do you draw the line? And how do you get guns out of the hands of nut cases like the guy at the Batman movie, while keeping "normal" people's rights?

The Second Amendment (Amendment II) to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights.
In 2008 and 2010, the Supreme Court issued two Second Amendment decisions. In District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), the Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm, unconnected to service in a militia[1][2] and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. In dicta, the Court listed many longstanding prohibitions and restrictions on firearms possession as being consistent with the Second Amendment.[3] In McDonald v. Chicago, 561 U.S. 3025 (2010), the Court ruled that the Second Amendment limits state and local governments to the same extent that it limits the federal government.[4]

I'm sure everyone here is capable of having a civil discussion about this subject. But just incase, please read the notice in this link...

LINK---> https://montecarloforum.com/forum/of...ics-site-7349/

The notice was originally written about politics and elections. But it applies to this topic also.

Personally, I'm all for the second amendment. I think most people don't NEED to be packing a gun all the time. But I respect the right to bear arms for those who are responsible enough to own one.

Yes, I'm in Canada. And here in Canada we don't have the same rights when it comes to owning guns. Hunting guns/long guns are one thing. No problem getting licensed and owning them. Hand guns, not so much. I'm not going to pretend to know all the legal details when it comes to owning a gun here in Canada. I'd have to do some research. Unless a more knowing person here can elaborate.

But as far as crime statistics go. The criminals here in Canada have absolutely no problem getting any kind of gun they want. They'd be getting them illegally, but I don't think they really care if the gun is legal. As far as statistics for gun violence in Canada, you can't really compare. Because our population is so much smaller than the U.S.

I think not being allowed to own a gun legally does more for keeping guns out of the hands of people who are more likely to accidentally hurt themselves or someone they love. Not being allowed to own a gun doesn't stop a whole lot of crimes.

5 days?!?!?! But I'm mad NOW!!!!

It is funny, but unfortunate how a lot of animated shows mimic the mentality of some in the real world.

I love the second ammendment. I have several guns all used for hunting and recreation. I am of sound mind and have been trained to use them through various courses as I grew up. In England some hoolagans broke into a guys house and started to terrorize his family so he grabbed an antique shotgun and shot one of them. He is now in jail for a long time because he did not have the right to bare arms. When do others rights come before our own? There are some bad people who have no right to own a gun but dont let the one bad case in 1 million ruin it for the rest of us. And it is probably close to 1 in 1 million but you never here about the 999 thousand responsible sane people on the news.

It's in the constitution. We have the right to have guns to protect ourselves, or hunt if that's your cup of tea.

There is no way from keeping guns out of nutjobs' hands. The only thing that the government could do is edit the constitution and take guns away from "everybody". And by "everybody" I mean people that own the guns to keep their families safe. Almost anybody can get nearly any kind of gun they want, illegally. Taking guns away from law abiding citizens just leaves them defenseless. Or it could cause a civil uprising, which would be bad for everyone.
