This link may provide more information for you. I believe I read in another one of your posts that you have a 3.4. This recall is for the 3.8

Yes its for the 3.8 valve cover gaskets leak oil down on too the exhaust manifolds and catch fire.

Yeah, the recall is on the 3800, not the 3400. Granted, I question if it's just aged and dry rotted gaskets (which should be replaced eventually anyways). Also, when you compare the 3800 to the 3400 valve covers, the gasket materials are the same, I'm surprised the 3400 doesn't suffer the same issues, if not worse.

If anything, I would think the 3400 has the LIM gasket issue common to the 3400 engine. It wasn't a recall, or a risk of fire. It was a TSB (technical service bulletin).

That started as far back (or further) in '94 with the earlier 3400. Everyone believes Dex cool was the problem, but many of those 3100's never had Dex (the Internet just wasn't the same back then for people to post about it).

Root cause of 3100/3400/3800 LIM gasket failure: Nylon/Plastic is a HORRIBLE material for those gaskets. That's all anyone really needs to know (despite that, they did get 80-120K miles on average before a failure).
