The Real Batmobile
I've had this link tucked away in my favorites for quite a while and thought I'd share it with those that didn't know the history of the Batmobile. It actually started off as a concept car in 1954 manufactured by Ghia for Lincoln. It was named the Lincoln Futura. It made an appearance at the Chicago Auto Show in January of 1955 and a couple of appearances on TV (The Ed Sullivan Show and The Dave Garroway Show). In 1959 it appeared in the movie It Started With A Kiss. After that it was pretty much forgotten about because it didn't compliment the styling of the 60s. This is when George Barris took possesion of the car. In 1965 he was commisioned by ABC TV to build it into the Batmobile for the upcoming Batman TV series. When the TV series hit the small screen that's when the world got its first look at the (original) Batmobile. I remember rushing home from school so I could get home in time to watch it. Anyway, here's the link. Enjoy.
