Some popular questions...
Question: "I've passed the number of posts for the next level, but it hasn't changed yet. Why?"
Answer: The user titles change automatically. Normally. But if you have additional text under the user title bar (not including the link to your Garage), an administrator has to change the title bar to the next level manually. This is most common with Monte Of The Month winners, for example. If I haven't changed yours to the proper level yet, it's because I didn't notice your post count. You're more than welcome to PM me and give me a reminder.
Question: "Other forums let members change their own user title. Why doesn't MCF allow this?"
Answer: This is for a couple reasons.
First (and foremost), because of the way the forum's software works. In order for the user title bars to work properly, I have to be able to use HTML coding. The forum only allows HTML coding to be used by an administrator. If I allow members to edit their own user title, the forum software will disable HTML and all the title bars would disappear.
Second reason. I've been on many forums just like most of you. Some allow you to customize your own user title, and some don't. Of those that do, it never fails that people start posting user titles claiming to be the forum's "official" whatever. Or posting inappropriate titles like "F*ck Haters", etc.
MCF (like most other forums) had a big problem with spammers and hackers creating accounts with official sounding user names. Making themselves sound like forum staff. Some of them managed to fool members, and those members got hit with viruses. In an effort to keep members safe, official sounding user names and user titles are not allowed. Spammers tend to work quickly, so it was decided that user titles can only be set by the forum staff.
Side note: That's also why the forum staff's user names appear in blue letters. Everyone else is in black (including paid sponsors).
