That's why I say I want a new walkaround lens. You want a lens that can do a bunch of different things in 1 package. The kit lens is decent, but I find myself wanting to swap out a bunch.

I've been thinking about this for my new walkaround: Amazon.com: Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD SP Aspherical (IF) Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras: Camera & Photo

Mitch, the nifty fifty is cheap. It's under $100 all day lol

Yep, I got it for a cheap $275 from my brother. Sigma lenses have a slight focusing issue, I'll post up a picture that I'm talking about when I get off of work later.

It's very soft in most of the picture

Like it was said before the body isn't that big of a deal... it can kind of make a different. I used to shoot with a Rebel XS when I was taking photography... base model camera I still got some amazing shots. I recently upgraded to a T3i, I love it and it takes good video.

Anyone running Cannon I suggest looking into getting Magic Latern it's free firmware for your camera and it adds a lot of features to your camera.

With that being said though I can't imagine a 20-40 being any better with a shorter focal length...?

At car shows you want a pretty short focal length. Not much room to stand where you need to stand for some shots

So going from 18 to 20 would be a downgrade regardless.
