There's that link... I am wanting to get a shorty forty soon, I've seen too much of the nifty fifty being too soft and many people not liking it... plus i have a Best Buy gift card... lol

 

Only if you keep the aperture huge is it really soft

 

Interesting, Reineke Ford is one of our competetors. I work in a neighboring town.

 

Even when it's not huge though compared to the 40, it's visibly softer. You wouldn't notice it without comparing it to another lens though.

they're both great lenses, i've just seen preferences for the 40, but saving a bit might lead me to get a 50 instead... idk i'm cheap lol

 

I carry around a Sigma 20-40 F/2.8 when I walk around the pits at race tracks. I prefer my 50mm F/1.8 (for the money) you can't go wrong.



I've used my brothers 70-200 F/4 when he had it, Gotta get the F/2.8. Amazing lens for under 2k

 

A 20-40 for your walk around? I'll have to look into it.

I've been thinking about this for my new walkaround:
Mitch, the nifty fifty is cheap. It's under $100 all day lol

 

I have the kit 18-55mm for walkaround right now and it does decent..

The 50 is like $75-85 while the 40 is around $115-140... I realize it's cheaper, but from what I've read the extra $30-40 is well worth it

 

The kit lens are okay, but they could be so much better. Most of the time I can only get an F-Stop of around 6 though.

 

That's about right, I had it around 4 I believe the other day, but that was low shutter speed. Then again it's a zoom lens, so trying to compare it to a standard lens is kinda pointless lol I've still had fine results with it and it's a decent lens for what it's worth

The 18-55 also makes for a great macro lens, being it has a focusing distance of 9.8"
