Ok so im looking into getting a 89 fox body Mustang with the 4cyl 5 speed does anyone know how hard a 5.0 swap is? Will it bolt to the 4cyl tranny? Any advise is well appriciated

 

 

I'm not an expert on doing engine swaps. But I'm gonna say you can't, and should not, bolt a 5.0 V8 engine onto the original tranny your 4 cylinder was mated to.

 

Spoke with my Fox body friend. Here is what he had to say.

If you already have a 5.0 engine your trying to use, you would be better off buying a fox body with a blown 5.0 for cheap and dropping your engine into that car.

To swap a 5.0 into a 4 cyl. fox body car would nickel and dime you to death. You would just for starters need to do the following:

Swap computer and wiring harness. entire front suspension due to weight, rear end from 7.5 open to the 8.8, new driveshaft, tranny crossmember to a dual hump as the 5.0 is dual exhaust, tranny bell housing, clutch assembly, radiator and thats just off the top of his head. Steve said that more issues would manifest themselves as the swap progresses.
