I don't top off either for the reasons Monte2K just posted. My fiance does and it drives me crazy. Glad I don't let him fill up my cars.

I've been told by the fuel director of Fred Meyer that there have been several instances where several Subaru's were topped off and it ruined the vapor canister (or whatever it was) and Fred Meyer had to shell out $300 to replace each one.

I don't always top off, but sometimes I do.....
And, I prefer to pump my own gas. The last 2 times I've been in NJ ... I got gas before and after leaving ... lol.

I used to round up to the nearest dollar, but my car had to go into the shop for a fuel related filter issue, and I was told that by pushing in more fuel than it wants it did the harm, so I never do it anymore.

Thats me too, i fill my truck there and i take my gas cans so i get my 30 gallon limit every time!

Probably a good idea
but making it a law...I'm not too sure about that. I admit, I will even shake the car to get to the nearest dollar sometimes.
Here's another good one for you. In Tennessee or Kentucky, I'm not sure which, they passed a law that you can't get gas during a thunderstorm. They literally shut down the gas pumps, and the station owners can get fined big-time if caught letting anyone get gas.
This happened to a buddy of mine last year when he was coming back from vacation. He had to wait until the storms rolled through to buy gas.

hmmmmm...maybe I should fill my car differently! I TOP off ALL the way...I always figure I need gas every 3-4 days, so i'll take the extra gallon and a half I squeeze in my tank when I TOP off...I always figured it did not matter much because A) I am careful not to spill, and B) I burn the extra just driving home from work...
When I fill up, I let it click, then pull the pump out, and use my hand to pull the corrugated rubber back so that the pump will still pump. Then I slowly pull the trigger and watch the gas go into the tank until I literally see it sitting in the filler tube. When my tank is all the way empty, I have gotten 18.3 gallons in my car before (and the tank is only 17.5) I always get an extra 1-1.5 gallons in the tank after it clicks...
I guess maybe I should just round off to the nearest 50 cents and call it good...
