neat old buildings?-- more member photography
i figured i would expand on the member photography thread i started a while back, only this time with a more specific theme -- neat old buildings and structures.
i personally live in an aerea where almost all of the structures of the original town have been bought out by the state, a few dating to revolutinary times, that have always intrigued me. i've always found old buildings neat, be them occupied or vacant, residential or commercial, ect, ect.
i wanna know if anyone else has a favorite old building / structure, and if they have any pic's of it, or mabe know some interesting history about the place, or mabe have a personal story about it.
my personal favorite (that i have pics of) is the victorian house on a back road that was built by the turn family in the early 1800's, and occupied by turn decendents untill around 2005. the turns owned the local genral store, and when the last resident of the house, ralph turn, passed away, the contents of the house were auctioned off. from what i heard, anything you could think of accumulating in a home over 200 years went over the auction block. now the place just sits, no one is allowed to live in it because the park service owns it. what a shame.

now... whats your favorite old building?

im working on this house wright now in west falls church virginia, about 10 min. from DC and its over 140 yrs. old. its a diamond in the rough and even has a book wrote about it, with all the history that it holds.

this was a old roof look-out tower, to see any incoming intruders back in the day
(and yes i took this shot on the roof)

Here is a cool house not far from where I live, they almost tore it down to straighten a road, I'm glad they didn't, the city lost state money because of the curve in the road.

I really like the one I took of the T/A at this old bridge, I think it was the same day, just went on a cruise looking for good backgrounds.

Sorry neither were with the monte, just haven't had it that long yet...
