NASCAR Day Car wAsh/ Short Notice
NASCAR is doing a car wash at many of its tracks.... $10 for a wash, a wristband, and get to "dry" your car with a lap around the track. Martinsville Speedway is doing it... I'm planning to take the Torino for a ride up there. About 100 miles, we'll see how she does.
NASCAR Day Car Wash For Kids set for May 20 - May 10, 2011 - NASCAR.COM
Torino's ran Martinsville in '68 and '69... Cale Yarborough won in a '68 Mercury Cyclone (much like a Torino in the body lines) in the spring, Petty won in a Plymouth that fall, then Petty swept in the only year he drove a ford in '69 with Torino's.
I know it's short notice, but if you live near a track, thought you'd like to know!

Every track is tomorrow.... I checked Martinsville's website itself and it says a "couple of laps." I then checked their Facebook page and there was talks of the car wash tomorrow, 11-6, and a couple laps around the track.
Pocono Raceway Unites for NASCAR Day Car Wash on May 20
I have tomorrow off from work, but I wasn't planning anything like that! I wish I would have known this sooner, it would have been a blast to take a lap around Pocono Raceway.....
Have fun Duane running the Torino around the track, and keep it off the wall..... You must take or get someone to take pictures!

Yeah, these old cars tend to be a handful... have to make sure I keep it under me and keep it from sliding into the wall coming off 2 and 4.
I found out when someone on my mom's Weight Watcher's forum posted about this.. she's going out to Pocono. I may very well have taken my Monte to Pocono... first race there was 1974, and NASCAR rule at the time was that a car had to be within 3 years old. I'm taking the Torino because of the history at Martinsville.... that car ran that track that year, and the track is relatively the same. the tires and speed got to be too much for the asphault to handle in the 70's and they amde the turns concrete instead of asphault, and there was a lot more grass in the infield...
I broke out my DVD of "Guts and Glory", 1962-1969 NASCAR ,which has the 1968 Old Dominion 500, won by Petty in a Plymouth. Exciting race that year at Martinsville... race can, coincidentally, be viewed here as well:
