Great post, but seriously.
Stick with the 3800 maybe a GTP, or a Supercharged Monte.
You can find a supercharged in that price range easily!
I'll take the Trans Am, and Camaro from Brock's list.

and add my own favorites the Magnum and G8 but the G8 is way out of price range.
The Magnum can be found in the high 12's maybe 13 depending on where you look and if you're willing to travel.

Good luck.

Bonneville or GP GTP was on my list when I found the Monte. Comfort & mpg.

I spit Pepsi all over my keyboard. LOL

If you want to stay with GM, I'd stick with something with the 3800 engine. Whether it's a Monte, a Grand Prix, or something else. It's proven to be a very reliable engine, and the cars they're in generally last a long time.

The G6 is a nice looking car. But I've heard that they're designed to last as long as the factory warranty. After that, they start to be a money pit. Which doesn't surprise me, since the G6 was the replacement for the Grand Am. That also means your going one step lower in classification.

That means you should be able to get a younger and/or higher model (GT, GTP) for the same price. For example, instead of getting a 2004 Grand Prix, you might be able to get a 2006 G6.

Once you get it narrowed down to a few models that you're seriously interested in, check out some forums.

I really suggest you go to a forum for the cars you're interested in. Before you buy. Check around for common problems people are talking about. Ask questions. You're a forum member, you know the drill.

looking to stay american, my list goes prolly like this. all newer models to last me quite a while if i do get a loan for one
chrysler 300
dodge charger
pontiac grand prix
g8/gto.. prolly too expensive and not as good mpg
impala
monte, would have to be newer ss, not as big of a fan as 6th gen though
ford fusion
ford mustang

i will ofcouse have to testdrive them ;p but speed isnt an issue anymore, i dont need any more tickets. basically look like i have cash for a nice car, and luxurous ride, but i really only took a loan for about 12k..lol

I would say maybe even a cobalt! You can get them for about your price range, they are small but not too small and obviously have a punch to them!

Yea because BMWs just have horrible reliability. And that non plastic interior is pretty crappy to.

What is wrong with an 04 supercharged Monte?

Personally I perfer GM all the way so yea supercharged Monte or GTP (99-03).
Camero or Trans-Am well cant go wrong there.

Here is a kicker...you said earlier you kinda like Malibu...some Malibu's have the same V6 as the new Cameros...that is right that 305hp V6 is in some Malibu's. So you can check them out again if you want.
