Default Is This From A MCF Member?

I got this email sometime this afternoon.

Just wondering how they found this post on a web site that was taken down (2000montecarlosspacecar@groups.msn.com) some time ago?

I posted about FINALLY finding out what number our Pace car is.

I can not believe I finally tracked down someone who could tell me the production number of our '03 Pace car.
I found the company that originally printed the Certificates of Authenticity for GM when our cars were new.
The program was shut down by GM in 2006 and they pulled everything connected with the program including the card stock they supplied to print the certificates on.
Fortunately, this outsourced company has our car in a data base of their's.

Our car is number 476 of 1,401 Pace cars made in 2003 by Chevy.

The person I spoke with at this company said they were going to do more research on our car to find out additional information and to see if there's anything they can print out and mail to me on our car.

WOO-HOO!!!

Hi R.J.,
I don't know how they found the information, but everyone should be super careful opening emails when they do not know the sender.

It is interesting if GM gave their program files/infor to a outsource company ? ? ?

I don't open emails `if I don't know the sender/source.
If you do open unknown emails, I suggest you scan them for virus's.

R.J., hopefully a member will be able to supply addtional information...Good Luck from `Space : )

At one time MSN had a registry of pace cars, as well as the signature cars. But that registry was eliminated about 2 years ago. I'm guessing it was associated with that old registry, IMO.

I agree with Space, I should not have opened an email from someone I didn't recognize. The message could have contained anything. And I'm still dealing with the aftermath of the virus my computer had back in the fall.

I hate to be like this but I'm not responding to this email.

Thanks for the help guys.

You can find all sorts of old stuff through the wayback machine:

Main site:
http://www.archive.org/web/web.php

Search results for the msn group - lists the dates the site showed changes, clicking on a link will take you to a snapshot of the website on that date:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://...CarloSSPaceCar

Last updated page:
http://web.archive.org/web/200804092...CarloSSPaceCar

Sometimes you get lucky and get the graphics, sometimes its just the pages and the links.

Maybe that's how they managed to send you the email.

Scary that this stuff can hang around for so long
