It was ultra windy here yesterday there was a 20 Car pile up on I-80 the NSP shut 1-80 down and every one was rerouted to nearby roads.
Here are a few photo's I got from facebook. I am not sure who the pilot was taking them( maybe Stringfellow Hawk)?. The wind was nuts.

06mistreSS 05-01-2018 07:42 AM

Good morning guys, can't believe May is here.

Made it up to 72 yesterday and today shows a high of 81. We have a red flag warning for this afternoon/evening - high fire danger I guess.

That's crazy. Reminds me of our lake effect snow up here in Michigan. Same effect... clear one second, can't see 20 feet in front of you the next.

06mistreSS 05-02-2018 10:08 AM

Good morning guys.

Already 75 degrees this morning, going up to 80. Made it up to 85 degrees yesterday - just 1 degree below the record at Detroit Metro!

The 2018 tornado drought was broken yesterday in Kansas, first ones of the year they've seen. Also reports in Nebraska and possibly one in Oklahoma. More severe weather moving up through the Plains, Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast through Thursday. Be on alert!

06mistreSS 05-03-2018 08:03 AM

Good morning guys. Got the yard cut last night for the first time this year. We had some pretty good storms move through last night too - lots of lightning and heavy rain. Looks like more severe weather moving up through the Plains, Great Lakes and Northeast through tonight. Be on alert!

Take care of yourself not sure if you knew but we lost Barb to that stuff.
Hope your family is doing well.

Good morning guys, 15 days til our Spring Meet!

We're clearing up today and are under a high wind warning, as we could see gusts up to 60 mph, and a slight thunderstorm risk.

Pretty cool news - the Detroit Zoo is considering building a big aquarium in Downtown Detroit along the river. It would be the largest aquarium in the State.

Mel, good to hear from you! Glad to hear you are doing better. My mom had a fight with cancer twelve years ago that she unfortunately did not win. Just curious, did you find a new home for your Monte?

06mistreSS 05-04-2018 02:50 PM

Still under a high wind warning til 6pm and there's already a lot of wind damage reports across lower Michigan. Currently 230k+ in SE MI without power. A peak wind gust of 68 MPH was recorded in Bad Axe, MI and 61 MPH in Romulus, MI near Metro Airport.

Wow those were some huge trees that blew down. We had that crazy wind last week. When they had 2 20 plus car pile ups on I-80 with in 2 days and they were both with in 20 miles of here either west or east.:wtf:

06mistreSS 05-07-2018 08:44 AM

Good morning guys.

Such a hectic weekend. Saturday we were at the new house for about 6-7 hours cleaning up the landscape beds - pulling weeds/grass, removing leaves and resetting some stepping stones. Sunday we went to look at some antiques and got a few pieces of furniture, one needing to go in the bed of the truck. On the way home from that, storms were starting to blow up and we got caught up in a few heavy downpours (never fails :nono:) and the piece in the bed was soaked so we spent time drying it off and put a fan on it. Then, I was diagnosing a leak in our hot tub which turned out to be one of the heater pipe clamps so I got a replacement (surprisingly one of the spa stores was open late on a Sunday and had the clamp/gasket in stock ), installed it but then one of the gate valves I closed to be able to replace the clamp was stuck closed so I ended up having to drill it out to at least have water flow back.

drivernumber3 05-07-2018 12:20 PM

Matt, just so you know. You let your wife know that you are pretty handy around the house. Opp's:rotfl:
I made that mistake 40 some years ago and now she always has a list for me to work on.:wtf:

So around here it was a real nice weekend. Stuff I wanted to work on was not possible because I had knocked out the Sacroiliac in my back actually is my hip. So it was super painful. It is really bad when I try to get into the Car and have to lift my left leg up to get into the seat. Once there I am Okay.
As the day progressed it seemed better.
Went back the Chiropractor this morning. It feels a little better now.

Then we met up with my Son and his wife on Sunday and my granddaughter had a birthday, so we had some birthday cake.
Interstate 80 was a death trap this weekend several multi crash accidents. 2 were from texting and driving, it appears the Car came across the median and had a head-on. Then another a Semi ran into the back of another Semi. This stuff is getting crazy.:wtf:

06mistreSS 05-08-2018 10:21 AM

Good morning guys, going up to 78 degrees today.

Last week, a diver in Old Mission Bay (15 miles North of Traverse City, MI) came across a 1979 Ford Pinto pretty far from shore in about 20 feet of Lake Michigan water.

Yes, I agree. Just saw this morning that pedestrian deaths rose somewhere around 45% between 2000-2016. People just suck at driving to be honest and it's getting worse. I think our society's growing lack of patience and respect for others is why. It's unbelievable what I see in just one day of driving. And politeness is slowly going away too, everything is expected... it's amazing the amount of people that don't offer a thank you for things like holding a door open or a wave for stopping to let someone enter traffic in front of you.

Saturday evening after Church we went to dinner out and left the Café and I turned on the road traffic was nothing for 2 blocks, I look in my rear view mirror and this guy is right on my bumper, the downtown speed limit is 25 I chose the left lane for traffic and he pulls along side and the wife thought he flipped me off.:wtf: But when I pulled along side him again he just looked away.:nono: He had a cool car though but not sure what it was. :rotfl: Drivers training is not long enough and detailed enough anymore. :nono::confused:
I am old school I hold the door for Women all the time no matter who they are, I had a lady thank me the other day for that, she that hadn't happen since before her husband had passed. and when somebody lets me into traffic I will usually wave if possible to say thanks.
Now when I was in Tennessee in 2016 those folks always let you in to traffic even from a parking lot.

06mistreSS 05-09-2018 09:12 AM

Good morning guys.

@ drivernumber 3... I don't know if it's just a Midwest thing but a lot of people up here are in the biggest rush, are in it for themselves and could care less about others. I get tailgated all the time, everyday. Even when traffic is doing 10 mph over the speed limit there's always someone that needs to be right on you. You get multiple people doing this in a row and that's how accidents happen, but don't try to tell any of those drivers that cause they'll tell you to f-off because God forbid they're wrong. :nono:

Back in the late 60's I lived in California, and that's the way it was up until 1970 when I moved to Iowa. I think they are leaving California and moving in here and this is what happens. :o:rolleyes:
But I know what you mean, I always believe if you are courteous then folks will be back too. But that often is not the case.
What I think I would enjoy doing is finding an old 64 Chevy or Buick, and Weld Rail road track or steel beams to the outside.
Then have a wrap made that says I Drive Offensively, don't P...... me off.
Just for fun, see what happens??:rotfl:

It's not just a mid-western thing unfortunately. Even in small town areas I am finding people who think the bubble around them and their car is the exact center of the universe....rudeness abounds. I call them the walmart crowd...it seems like that's their only life.

Driven out onto the ice and left there, that's exactly what they thought.

You're right, a lot of people think the world revolves around them. And people try so hard to justify just about everything nowadays. Hard to find people that will take responsibility for their actions or admit their wrong.

06mistreSS 05-09-2018 01:50 PM

Wow, just realized it's going up to 82 degrees today, and that's with mostly cloudy skies. Chance of strong/severe storms later today too.

Got the tires aired up, changed the oil and started the Monte up yesterday! Didn't move it but let it get up to operating temp.

Afternoon guys. More thunderstorms possible today. Gas prices have been steadily increasing here and are really starting to hit and top the $3/gallon mark.

Hey everyone!

Spent the weekend working on my daily driver that broke down on Thurs. Not sure what is wrong with the car, but trying the usual suspects on this direct injection engine (DIRTY VALVES!). So I took the upper intake off, and I'm cleaning up everything that I can. Also did the plugs while I had everything so open, and they were all nasty too. And since I have so much opened up, going to just swap out the serpentine belt since it will be easiest to do without my intake on the car.

I was in Chicago a week ago, and there was one station right by Midway Airport that was over $4 for regular unleaded, most places were already over $3....

Down here, we're just over $2.50 in most places...

Sounds like Dale Sr. One of the local go kart racers here got a chance to meet Dale at a track and had a one on one conversation with him. He asked Dale for some advise racing. His answer was "that pedal on the right, keep it mashed down. That pedal on the left, break it off!"

Good morning guys. Our area has had quite a bit of rain lately; anywhere from 1.2" to 3.6" measured over the weekend plus another 1.0" overnight.

I've been seeing a lot of $2.99 around here for the past couple weeks. There's a station here right by Detroit Metro Airport, by all the rental car places, that's at $3.70/gallon - of course they take advantage of the rental returns.

Those wonderful rental car companies, ha,ha got an email the other day that I am no longer an Avis preferred platinum member.:wtf: I used to rent the cars for several months for work now that I retired I haven't had one since last September. I feel real sad now!!:( Lol Gas here is $2.59 just filled the Torrent last night.

Good morning guys. Yesterday was nice, 77 and sunny today.

Got the Monte out last night for the first time this year and cruised Downtown Detroit and Belle Isle. The Detroit Grand Prix setup is well underway, most if not all of the concrete barriers and fencing are in place.

But getting time to work on the Monte has been difficult.:wtf::nono:

Good morning guys.

Our Club had our tour at the GM Heritage Center on Saturday. They have roughly 170 vehicles on the floor at their location and that's out of their total collection of 800 vehicles. The very last Monte Carlo built was sitting there on display; a red 2007 SS. They opened it up for us; it has only 22 miles on it. They also had an 84 SS and Kevin Harvick's 2006 stock car. It's a very unique collection; lots of GM concept vehicles, historically significant vehicles and classics all the way back to 1900. I would highly recommend a tour if you are ever in the Metro Detroit area but you need at least 30 people. Here's a few shots off my phone; I might post more of my pictures at a later time.

Well this has been an interesting week for sure. We traveled to Colorado Springs to see the Grandkids and daughter and son in law. About 500 miles door to door. So we finished diner, the wife is off to the bathroom.
Come back out and is all disoriented and is rushed to the Hospital, tests most of last night and today. They finally put a stint or 2 in her artery near the heart.:nono:

So maybe she will get out of the Hospital tomorrow.

GTHSS 05-24-2018 04:09 AM

Oh no! I hope your wife is ok. I will pray for her.

drivernumber3 05-25-2018 12:44 AM

Well a little update: Made it home from Colorado Springs and wife got released from the Hospital and then we had a long drive home. Doctor indicated he thought it was best she got back down from the altitude. We were at about 7 thousand feet there and more like 2 thousand here and that was reducing her Oxygen intake. they gave her some tanks of Oxygen to use at home.

Kind of a sad deal:( her Christmas gift from my daughter was a Taylor Swift concert in Denver.
So she had to cancel that for her trip home.:nono::(:bang head:

Good morning guys. Suppose to go up to 88 degrees today and will be in the low-mid 90s both Sunday and Monday. Unfortunately we aren't going anywhere for the holiday weekend (weather looks crappy where we would be going) but we may take the boat out somewhere local on Monday.

Gas prices here in SE MI are now averaging $3.11/gal.
