Default Major Earthquakes Strike Indian Ocean

A magnitude 8.6 and 8.2 earthquake were recorded in the Indian Ocean earlier today. A tsunami warning has been issued.

Latest Earthquakes in the World - Past 7 days

The last major quakes to strike the area were a 9.1 and 9.3 lasting between 8 and 10 minutes each in 2004. Those quakes created a tsunami killing over 230,000 people in 14 countries.

The quakes of 2004 created vertical shaking where the quakes today created horizontal shaking. Vertical shaking causes the most damage, but any quake with this type of magnitude has the potential of being deadly.

Unhappy Very Sad News

Hi Seattle Mike,
Thanks for your thread. It's another reminder how fragile planet earth can `be & also Human `Life..

To me it's a reminder that No One is guaranteed a 2morrow & that we must extract every moment of every day that we are given.

I don't know why these tragic, devastating events occur, but maybe it is a reminder to the masses...

I hope there are many countries that can provide aid & help to those in need.

Ok, back to `life & living...in peace/love & happiness
