If she doesn't have a clue on how to cook then she shouldn't be in the Kitchen. Back in the day I worked for a company who was an exhibiter at many State Fairs, the ladies at the Lutheran Church food stand in Huron, South Dakota were wonderful cooks and if you had their Rhubarb pie you would prefer it over Cherry. You just probably never have been exposed to a good pie maker.
