Question If you could design your own car for 2013...

From the chassis-up, what would it look like? Would you make a totally new car or go back in time and fine-tune and older model (like the Yugo )? What would you call it? What would the specs be? Would it fly? Does not have to be a Monte...

I complain whenever I can that GM needs to go back to the old days of 'real' cars. So me personally, I would design a new successor to the Monte Carlo. It would be based on the looks of the 4th gen, with curves instead where body is squared.

Headlights/grille would stay the same. Body lines would be more pronounced, closer to the 2nd gens though. Comes stock with the nascar-style spoiler we have in the 6th gen SS supercharged. Hood opens from the back instead of by the radiator. Tail lights would look similar to the 6th gen. I hate the light-green factory instrument cluster lighting with a fiery passion, so this new Monte would come with red. Speedo, tach, fuel, battery, and I'm going to copy Ferrari (I think) and add a program that keeps a log of your track times.

RWD V8; base model would have the LS4 engine, and and let's say the SS would get the LS7 motor. Toss in some 4- and 6-piston calipers with drilled and slotted rotors for srs braking power. True dual exhaust 5-spd manual or paddles for the base; 6-spd manual only for SS. Interior comes with all the creature comforts of course: leather bucket seats, double-din radio, nav, etc. Throw a "sport mode" button in there which includes disabling traction. Interior color options are the same as the 6th-gen pace cars of days gone by. Since I am an audio nut I would require 8" speakers in the doors at least. Wheels would be 17s on the base, 18 optional on the SS. Maybe do a throwback to the old days and use the rally style or perhaps keep the modern 5-spoke SS wheels. No hubcaps

That, in a nutshell, would be how I would design my own car. Not too dissimilar, and all of my favorite things about a Monte stuck together. Hopefully the physics of it would actually work out Minor details...

Ally is my name.

Great article Space. Beautiful car. The things I would do to have a car like that... I hope one day I have the time and money to rebuild my Monte and make it even better than it is now. Or maybe buy an '85 and restore it?

My car would be a 2 door coupe with a small suicide option on passanger side and almost no room in back. be a 2x2 seater. have a low and wide stance. It would be AWD and have a turbo charged 6 cylinder with forged internals making at least 300-350 hp. back would be tall and smooth with wide hips front would be more sharp and angular with an agressive wide front grill. Weight distribution would be almost a perfect 50/50. Car would weigh around 2700 lbs. There would be very little driver aids if any it would be a car designed to teach you how to drive it.
