...IM name?
We've had threads about how we came up with our screen name on the message board(s), but what about your Instant Messenger ID, whether it is AIM, YahooIM, etc. (especially if it is different than your screen name here)?
*pauses*
Of course, only share if you want people to contact you via IM....
AND:
Anyone else, like me, have people on your IM buddy list(s) that, sadly, you've no idea who they are anymore?
I don't open my IMs as much as I used to. Years ago (or so it seems), I spent most of the evening IMing with people. Now, along with other things, my evening hours are spent reading and posting to groups/boards. So, when I do open up my IMs, I almost always see a screen name that I do not know to whom it belongs anymore....

well the nickname Couch came from me falling and breaking this really expensive looking leather couch in half at a house party when i was 16, and running like heck. my friends called me couch-killer, and ended up being shortened to just Couch. so my friends actually call me Couch more then Chad.
IM name (fishon869) came about because hubby set it up and I never changed it or made my own, since it's also my email and everyone knows it, I just left it. "fishon" is the boat's name, someone else had that so we had to add to it, so "8" is the month we got married in, "69" is the year I was born.
Now my screen nameon here came from: Dusty is my parrot, so "dustybird" and I think you know where the "3" came from

Coming up with an IM name that I liked was really hard. didn't want a name involving numbers or something that looked like just random letters. Kept finding that everything I liked was already taken.
Of course "Taz" was long gone decades ago. Definitely didn't want to use my real name. Besides, it would be taken too and I would have to add numbers to it. Which I didn't want.
It's kind of like getting a personalized plate for my car. I say I would like this. They tell me it's already taken, just add a number to it. My reply is, that's not what I want though. If it's not what I want, then it's not really a personal plate is it? If I say I want "Karen" on my licence plate (for example), and they tell me I have to add a number, and the next available number is "Karen32", well that's not what I want. For one thing it looks like I'm giving away her age. The other thing is, it's not the original. "Karen" is the original, "Karen32" is the 32nd ripoff plate of the original. Of course "Taz" (and all the variations) is an extremely popular licence plate name. Especially among Chevy owners.
Back on topic...
I chose "chiefelbowsdeep" as a last resort. It's a name a co-worker called me years ago because every time he called me on our two-way radios, I was always "elbows deep" in work.
Sorry for going off on a rant there.

Just out of curiosity Amy...
Was the plate "AWSM SS" already taken, and adding the 8 was a compromise?
Or was the 8 always part of your plan, because of Dale Jr or something?

As a motorcyclist, whenever you kill an animal on the road, you are awarded a nickname by other riders.
For example:
Deerslayer
Armadilloslayer
Bearslayer
Manateeslayer
Beaverslayer
Oppossumslayer
Dogslayer
Etc, etc, etc.
When I read how the the Monte fell a dismal 3rd place in sales behind the Accord 2-door and the Toyota Solara, I decided that I would buy the Monte and Prove that I could slay any Solara that wanted to race me.

Simple, a cribbage game I started play on my computer back in middle school had three computers you could play against, Dumb Bot, Good Bot, and God Bot.
Well God Bot was able to see your hand, and what was gong to be flipped so it basically was damn near impossible to beat, I managed to beat it a few times and started using the name, got up to 1st rank on the internet half of the game but haven't played in quite awhile. Being that it was rather unique I never needed to add any numbers to it so it was a great gaming handle.
