Home state sights to see
I'm in the midst of reading Jim Hinckley's book, _Route 66 Backroads_, to prepare and plan this year's Route 66 Drive, September 5-16. I'm learning a lot about different areas in several states that probably should be explored ... when I have time. I'm also beginning to wish I could take more time for the Route 66 Drive...and, for that matter, road trips in general....
As I read the book further, I wonder what else is "out there" of interest to see in various areas. Our own "backyard" has plenty "treasures" to explore ... many more than we have time to see. This became apparent when I saw the PBS specials on Route 66 and the Lincoln Highway; researched other famous routes (US RT 20, US RT 2, The Dixie Highway, etc.); and, of course, as I've road tripped across the United States. Reading Jim Hinckley's book is just reinforcing that.
So ... what do YOU consider to be "should see" areas/places in your home state? What would you tell travelers to check out, if they have the time, as they drive through your state? What "obscure" and "out of the way" places in your home state come to mind?

Well Im from South Carolina and we dont have HUGE cities like NY or LA or anything, but we do have some fun country roads that go on for miles before you reach any kind of civilizations and they are extremely fun to cruise down.

well here in nebraska i have lived in both ends of the state and i think by far the west is way more scenic. some ppl mite find it boring that there really isnt much out there and i find the sand hills (central neb.)to be way more interesting than most of eastern nebraska all the hills and curvy roads in the west are great. thereis the big damn we have thats kinda drying up but every state has water and chimmney rock is kool (look on the back of the Neb state quarter) and if you really wana get out in the boondocks were i used to liveup neer timberline there is this big wall they call beaver damn but its just a big rock formation its really kool(the indians burried crazy horse there if you know who that is)and u could make the drive go threw wyoming and south dakota which are both beautiful states. my monte isnt really o road tripper that is more my harley, really get the freedom feel there.

Well, anyone going to Michigan should definitely make the Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village a stop to see.
Among the many historic items and exhibits they have on display are the Rosa Parks bus and President Kennedy's limo.
Coming this summer they're having an exhibit of the cars of famous rock stars.

Born and raised in Oregon and still have more to see. Good starting points are Crater Lake, the Oregon coast, Columbia River Gorge, Mt. hood, Silver Falls State Park. I don't think I could ever get tired of living here, even with all the rain
I don't know if this pic will show or not, but it's of Trillum Lake with Mt. Hood in the background. One of our favorite fishing spots.
