Guy Cars vs. Gal's Cars
Soo while I was listening to the radio (93.7 The Bull) on Thursday morning on my way to school, Mason & Remy started talking about what makes a male car & what makes a female car. Mason was making fun of Remy because he thinks Remy drives a girl car, a VW Rabbit that got voted the cutest car of 2008 http://www.ridelust.com/wp-content/u.../vw_rabbit.jpg I personally didn't think they made the Rabbit anymore but apparently I was wrong, IMO that looks exactly like the Golf but whatever I guess they are the same car  but anyway back to the story. Remy, in his defense, said that the Rabbit was the masculine version of the VW Beetle so Mason had people call in to help describe what the difference between guy & girl cars are. Well while Mason was talking to a caller about it all, he said that he owes a Monte Carlo  (woo hooo!!!) & then they started talking about how the Monte Carlo was a guy car  idk what year he was talking about though. But everyone said that the Rabbit was a female car. I was gonna call in but I didn't know the number, they kept saying it too fast! Soo anyway, people kept saying all of these different characteristics between male & female cars. So my question is... What makes a guy car & what makes a girl car???? It'll be interesting to see everyone's opinions. I'll post mine after a few people answer :D So who is first :) Here are couple fun/interesting articles about the whole ordeal... http://editorial.autos.msn.com/artic...umentid=435226 http://www.squidoo.com/car-male-or-female http://www.insureme.com/press/press-release-1207 |

 Hi `Brittany, Great Thread Question 4-Sure. Thanks for your thread & all your contributions to keep our Monte Carlo Family active 4-Sure. I don't like to stereotype a man or women and what car is right for them, cause I think we are all different 4-Real and we all should have the choice to drive what we can afford and like, no matter what it is : ) I do think that a Pink car should be reserved for the ladies, or the different life style people :) It will be interesting to see what our membership post on this subject. Thanks Peace/Out :) |
I agree with space - everyone is different and has different tastes. I could see myself buying a new Panther Pink Challenger RT one day (if they bring back the color). I'm just uber cool cause I own 2 Montes LOL J/K!

Any car considered "cute", or uses advertising like this picture, is a girl car.

I think the general consensus is too old school so to speak, yeah most guys think girls like small cute cars...but to me that's simply not the case any more....To me now-a-days girls are getting more and more into the great hobby of cars...
There customizing them for car shows, and even racing down the quarter mile and many are doing the work themselves....so I think the misconception maybe a general and perhaps to broad a statement now-a-days...perhaps this is predomintently happening by me as I live in a big city and I see many girls into the car scene now Just my 2 cents... Joe |
Space, you are a BAAAAAAAAD Alien. LOL
|
Guys and gals can have the same car, but describe it differently.
Guys: I drive a killer 2006 Monte Carlo SS. You know its got that 5.3 and the butter soft leather. Whooty whoot!! Gals: I drive a blue car. Im team Edward! |
I think it's more an issue of some cars are plagued by stigmas given by the masses.
Such as the Mini-Cooper example earlier. I know a guy who is not a alternate lifestyle guy (that I know of), and he drives the Cooper S, put new rims one size larged on it with performance tires. It's a manual transmission and he drives it like a mad man. I've also seen guys bring the Mini Coopers to autocross meets (and they do very well with them). You look at the remade VW Beetle and it normally screams girl car (it's compact design, bubbled look and the fact that most GUYS who like VW Bugs, like the motor in the original location). But then there was the Hummer. I watched a show/documentary that talked about the Hummer and stated how the H3 was designed with specific concepts to strategically target a woman shopper. It's not that guys don't like the vehicle BUT they recognized a lot of guys had to "sell it" to their wives. So what's that say about the Hummer? It's not a "chick car" because of it's changed designs to appeal to women? |

Joe I feel this is true in a broader spectrum. (Case in point) The general public. Anything over 5 years old is old, and slow, and needs to put out of it's misery. I think the majority of guys see an old or older car as one with possibilities. Or one they owned one when younger. So it holds a special place in their lives. Woman (and this is a broad statement) gererally do not care. As long as it get's them from point A to B they're happy. Sure there are excteptions to the rule. And this can be true with guys as well. There are some guys who feel a car is aluminum, rubber, and plastic and that's all. You could say a lot or most of us on here feel our car (spelled: Monte Carlo) is an extention of ourselves. Maybe even our soul. We connect with the car. We know it's likes and dislikes. What makes it run better. |
Guy's car:

Girls cars- Small, good mileage, pretty much always stock besides air fresheners and terribly ugly seat/steering wheel covers. (there are exceptions lol)

What makes it run better. The H3 Hummer, I think, was doomed from the start. GM tried to take a Hummer that women hated because of how big, bulky, and ugly (not cute) they thought it was. And environmentalists hated because of how gas hungry the H1 and H2 were. So GM created a "mini" Hummer. The H3. In a losing effort to win over the females and environmentalists. Some people seem to forget that the Hummer was intended to be strictly a military vehicle. The AM General Humvee. Designed to share terrain and wheel tracks with tanks. Hence the reason for it's wide wheel base. It was never meant to be a daily grocery getter, driving down the sidestreets of suburbia by soccer-moms. Men liked the Hummer because it was everything a lot of men like. A big, powerful, military vehicle that screams "GET THE F*** OUTTA MY WAY!!!":cool::cool: |
Hehe I'm glad I made this thread bcuz this is a fun thread for me to read bcuz I'm reading y'alls opinions about girls+cars & I'm like "not meeee" http://www.gmforum.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif but i agree that a ton of girls just want a car that gets them from point A to B unfortunately but there are a lot of guys like that too. Me, I'm hella protective of my baby. Two of the worse months of my entire life were when she was down in Pensacola in a garage bcuz we hadn't gotten a chances to go tow her back yet; I don't think I could ever do that again. It was almost as if I had lost a piece of myself, cheesy i know but it's the truth lol
&& most of the people that I've seen driving Solstices are guys. A while ago I saw a freakin sweet modded Solstice & a guy was driving it. That was a fun drive down the interstate in developing traffic :D |

Example- Miley cyrus.I know she idiotic, but she did a common girl thing. Her mom gave her a porsche for her 16th birthday. What did she do with it. Traded it for a prius that can haul her and her friends and tiny dogs in it too. Most girls arent used to power, or want it. But the minute you say they cant, they get stubborn and say your sexist haha. |
I think the Miley Cyrus thing was more of a hollywood image thing. Probably wants to give off the image that she cares about the environment and stuff. It's all about target audience, going along with the latest trends, getting movie rolls, and all that hollywood politics crap.

male and female cars
....I think some cars are geared for different sexes and it's just a marketing strategy that car makers have used for years.
Look at the current VW Beatle. Some of them come with a daisey on the dash board. Certain Miatas, I think are geared toward girls. But then look at the Dodge Challenger and new Camaro ( although the lady that owned my MC 1st now has a Camaro ). Those two are geared for the guys mainly but I've seen girls driving these cars as well. It comes down to whoever wants car "A".....they get it and whoever wants car "B".... they get it. |
wow amazed at the stereotyping...eh I'll play devil's advocate and throw in some pics:

neon, sunfire, cavalier, AH HEM NO ONE MENTIONED MIATA'S LOL, cobalt (unless its an ss then its just too fast to be a girly car), G5, escape, focus, FWD cougar, fit, yaris hatchback, rabbit, beetle, cabrio, sentra, altima, mazda anything but rx7, corolla, mustang V6, sante fe, sidekick, any jeep but the iconic wrangler style or cherokees. and the list can grow easily.
thats just a couple i could think of for girls that are girly about cars. not all chicks are as power hungry as you Brittany ;) i won't start all over for man cars/trucks but basically anything not like the above mentioned vehicles. lol |

Ya gotta be kidding me, you guys do realie that Miata's are the BEST Autocross/handling/track cars, with the proper setup they can out perform almost any car out there, there are many guys out there who buy this car for that reason alone....
Joe |
V-6 Mustangs ---- um ya right - girls cars - NOT!!!!
|
I bought the monte cuz it was a large powerful luxurious vehicle. when my gf asked why i HAD to buy a monte instead of a focus(less miles better price) i said "this is a mans car"
it is stereotypical but so are many things. like before said guys like loud powerful big vehicles. my other ride- 5 inch lifted 4x4 durango with loud muffler and big tires and all the perks on the inside. |
also(and im just saying)
anytime i see a chick driving what i personally consider a mans car i think she is extra hot. don't know why but a girl in a big lifted truck or a fast trans am or whatever chicks in cool cars makes them better. imo |

To me it doesn't matter what you drive as long as you are happy with your choice......You are the one that paid for it, and has to maintain your ride choice....~>4-Sure https://montecarloforum.com/forum/at...6&d=1278599135 Oh `No : ) |
