Got my teaching job
I don't post too many of my personal things on the car forums, but this time I am goign to take an exception.
I know a few of you follow me on Facebook and know me, and know that I went to college to teach. It's a tough job market and all, but I did land a job.
I will be teaching US History at Western Vance High School near Henderson, NC. It's pretty unsual in North Carolina to get the higher level US History class in this state, you usually get the Civics or the World History (freshman), but I managed to get US History. This is also an alternative (for lack of a better term) school. Iti s for students who fell behind in teh regular schools and they request a transfer to this school. It has smaller class sizes to focus on the students as far as where they fell behind and help them get caught up to prevent them from dropping out. Class sizes are small (12-15 on average), the school size is only about 100-130, and there are only 14 teachers in this school in the first place (plus a few teachers assistants, media specialists, librarians, custodians, cafeteria staff, administrators, and councelors... about 28 in total). It's a very old building, constructed in 1920s, and my classroom will have hardwood floors!
Looking forward to it... I'm already doing curriculum training for professional development tomorrow. Got all my orientations and everything scheduled, and providing I don't fail a drug test or background cehck (not sweating any of that), I should be good to go!
