Default good gas milage car help

Im thinking about buying a used beater for a DD. I want a 4 cylinder coupe big enough for me to fit in. I want to spend a max of around 1400. Anyone got any good ideas?

I found a 90 celica 4 cylinder looks nice but would I fit?

Anything for that cheap might not be the most reliable. May end up putting more money into it than it's worth. Plus anything that cheap is probably going to be small lol.

Saturn s series DOHC with a manual with a sohc 5th gear swap your looking or sohc 5spd, easy to get 40 mpg, biggest thing is watch the oil and don't spin the tires

My old man dd's a SL2 and he's 6 ft 1in and 200lbs, I used to DD one and am 5ft 11 and just shy of 3 bills, gpa has one and still driving at the age of 85, little to no mods availiable for it so no temptation n more money to dump into the Monte ;P

Is this just to save money? Or to save wear and tear on the Monte

An s10 pickup with a 2.5 4 cyl 5 speed. They have a ton of room and you could haul some stuff too. Also a Fox body mustang. It may be a little hard to find one but they did make a ton of them with a 4cyl and a manual trans.
