This Could be Chevrolet’s Supercharged V-8 for the Corvette Z07—Or Not

October, 2013 by Alexander Stoklosa

The Corvette nuts over at CorvetteOnline have snagged a pair of coarse photos of what they think is the supercharged mill destined for a high-performance iteration of the C7 Corvette. Indeed, the V-8 pictured above is supercharged, and its block design indicates that it belongs to GM’s fifth-generation small-block V-8 family. But beyond that, there are a few misconceptions—and mysteries—that need to be cleared up.
CorvetteOnline, which claims the photos came from inside a GM prototype center, speculates that this engine will replace the current ZR1’s LS9 powerplant when that model is reloaded on the C7 platform. Our intel, however, suggests that there likely won’t be a C7 ZR1—instead, we expect Chevy to offer a single high-performance Corvette dubbed Z07. Based on spy photos and our sources, this all-encompassing performance Vette will be something of an amalgam of today’s Z06 and ZR1. As for this engine’s curious look, well, ignore the transmission bolted directly to it—Corvettes use a torque tube to carry power to a rear transaxle, and this engine could just have the more pedestrian setup for testing purposes. Also, it’s hard to argue with the “Corvette” lettering on the engine’s top cover.

Nissan GT-R NISMO to Be Hella Quick, Possibly Hit 60 in 2.0 Seconds

According to a recent report in Auto Express, the forthcoming Nissan GT-R NISMO may post a brutally quick 0-60 time of two seconds flat, a detail supposedly sprung from an unnamed source during the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed.
An engineer for British firm Williams Advance Engineering (as in Williams F1), which recently entered an agreement to assist in the development of NISMO models, told Auto Express that, “You’d be surprised at how much room for improvement there is—even with a car like the GT-R.”
If the GT-R NISMO does indeed hit the two-second mark, it will become the new benchmark for production-car acceleration, leapfrogging the $2-million-plus 2013 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, which hits benchmark speed in around 2.4 seconds. But then doing more with less has always been part of what the GT-R is all about, right?

Hi `Devin,I love Corvette's & really, really love the new `StingRay 4-$ure!!, but I still love many other super `rides that are out there. I think competition is good for everyone that enjoys performance rides...

There are a few GT-R's in my area & they just look mean on the streets & they have the power to prove that they are mean.
I'm looking 4ward to the Z07's + a ZR`1 StingRay

With a lot of custom classics you could arguably say they are like brand new, old cars. Well this AWESOME 1962 Corvette takes that statement a step further. This classic practically is a brand new C5 Corvette! This custom underwent a CNC conversion with extensive engineering allowing the 2004 Corvette body to transform into a 1962 C2. The car really has a cool look that takes features from both the early model and later model. It certainly has the look of a 1962 but the stance and sleek bodylines are much more like the 04. All of the correct style C2 Corvette split bumpers are in place in front and rear and have a great shine. The dual headlights and taillights work just as they should and look like the originals. A third taillight is cleanly mounted in place just above the correct style bodyline running up the deck lid. You couldn't leave out those classic coves which look great on each side with all of the vintage style trim and emblems. The car is painted a nice Red that really pops outdoors. A matching Red convertible top is in place which raises and lowers with no issues. This classic really does have the perfect stance. It looks extremely tough whether it is parked or roaring down the road. It rides on a set of C5 Corvette wheels that are nicely polished and wrapped with low profile tires. Under the hood of the car is the correct 2004 Corvette LS1 motor. It runs extremely well and is known for its smooth operation and high performance. The motor is mostly blacked out other than the custom Red and old school style valve covers. They have been topped with a custom made finned section which looks like what you would have seen on the 1962 327 motor. Behind this is the smooth shifting 6 speed transmission that works with no issues. The interior of the car is almost exact to what you would find in the 2004 Corvette. It has all of the same high quality components with a nice Red leather finish. All of the components are working properly with no problems. Check out the following tables to get a performance breakdown of the motor and all of the highlights of the interior: INTERIOR 12v power outlet: front Air conditioning with climate control Power antenna Peripheral anti-theft protection Front ashtray Audio anti-theft protection: code Bose RDS audio system with AM/FM and CD player Cargo area light Cargo capacity: all seats in place (cu ft): 13.9 Front seats cigar lighter Clock Full dashboard console , full floor console with covered storage box Delayed/fade courtesy lights Cruise control Front seats cup holders fixed Door ajar warning External temperature Floor covering: carpet in load area Floor mats Driver front airbag , passenger front airbag with occupant switch off Sports electrically adjustable driver and passenger seat with height adjustment, lumbar adjustment, three adjustments and tilt adjustment 3-point reel front seat belts on driver seat and passenger seat Front seat center armrest Lockable glove compartment Two head restraints on front seats Illuminated entry system Internal dimensions: front headroom (inches): 37.6, front hip room (inches): 54.2, front leg room (inches): 42.7 and front shoulder room (inches): 55.3 Low fuel level warning Low tire pressure indicator Low washer fluid level warning Remote power locks includes trunk/hatch Vehicle speed proportional power steering Front power windows with two one-touch Front reading lights Rear view mirror Remote fuel filler door release Remote control remote trunk/hatch release Seating: two seats Leather seat upholstery with additional vinyl Six speaker(s) Leather covered steering wheel with tilt adjustment Tachometer Illuminated driver and passenger vanity mirror Ventilation system with recirculation setting This is an awesome custom that as you can see offers a touch of old school classic with all the new age technology and performance. Now you can drive a classic but be as comfortable as you would in your brand new daily driver. These cars are not being built very often so it will continue to be collectible and rare for years to come! This amazing custom could be yours for $110,000.00!
