Well working from home. Daughter and grand kids fly back to Kansas today. Hope to drive out there in September to see them again. I miss them so much while they ae gone.

Will be getting the Deuce ready this week end for next week-end's car show Down town Lansing on the 27th right by the capitol building, and also posting pictures of the MIS Show Car nationals.

So yes, Detroit filed for bankruptcy yesterday and, by doing so, became the largest municipal bankruptcy in history. Kind of sad, but with the way the city governs and runs itself they did it to themselves; it was only a matter of time. Detroit's governing body is embarrassing to say the least. Hopefully they can recover but a lot has to change if that's going to happen.

There has been good news recently as well. First, there's serious talks of building a brand new arena for the Red Wings that would be located on the Northwest corner of I-75 and Woodward. Second, there's also been quite a bit of rehabilitation of old dilapidated and/or abandoned buildings and homes, most historic. Being as I'm an architecture grad, I'm happy to see this and very interested in it. I've visited a few of the completed rehab projects and they're amazing. Detroit's architecture is incomparable to other large US cities.

Most notable current rehabs: David Broderick Tower (1928; tall building to the left) and David Whitney Building (1915; building with iPad add). Broderick has since been completed, and as of March 2013 the building is 100% occupied. Whitney has more or less just started and work is in process and is slated to be complete in 2014. The David Stott Building (tall narrow red bricked building on the right) has also been in talks of receiving a renovation.



Book-Cadillac Hotel (1924) was renovated into, and currently operates, as a Westin Hotel with 455 guest rooms. The building also has 67 luxury condominiums on the top nine floors. Renovations were complete and the building opened in 2008.



Edmund Place (1882), one of the few remaining 19th century mansions in the city's Brush Park district just North of Downtown. Renovations converted the home into four condominiums. Work was completed in 2008.



Thanks for letting me share a bit of my interests. I'd write some more on this, as there's definitely a lot more, but I have to get going. Maybe I'll expand on this some more another day.

I believe today is suppose to be the last day of this awful heat wave...Sheeew I really need to wash and wax my Monte.

Good Morning all,

Happy it's Friday and all that, but when I read the news in the mornings, I lose more and more faith in what this country is. Dont get me wrong, I'm about as patriotic as the next American, but lately I have been having thoughts. Thoughts that I like the IDEA of America, rather than the actual culture and just being here in general.

I cant even watch the news in the morning anymore. Actually it shouldnt even be called the "news", I feel a more appropriate name would be, "Various acts of Violence in your Neighborhood and Political and Civil Unrest from Around the World....oh yeah, we've got weather and traffic too..."

There are so many things happening lately in this country that bother me, whether its Detroit going bankrupt, or the Zimmerman Trial...I absolutely do not understand why people can't accept the verdict enacted by a Civil Jury, but rather feel that more action is needed by Civil RIghts (Jesse Jackson) and why the NCLU and NAACP cant stop reaching into business that isnt their place...Also, all of the mobs of people that rioted on saturday night because they didnt like the verdict are a prime example of why America has become what it is.

Another thing, last week in the gym the news was on, and I saw that some movie studio plans on making a movie about the Boston Marathon Bombing, and to me, thats about as disrespectful a way to make a profit that I've ever heard.

These are just a few examples I have listed, I could go on and on and on....

I dont know, maybe all of this is just a thing that will pass and be by-gones this time next year. But there is part of me that says, what if its not? America isnt Economically or Physically invincible, and I think it's only a matter of time before something happens that makes us realize that in the worst of ways. Either way, I think I'll be formulating some kind of "Get-Out-Of-Dodge" plan in the very near future, just in case. I would love to hear what all of you fellow members think, whether you agree with me or not. Oh, and thanks for reading if you made it this far
