A lot of the small block Chevy's made right now are made to the same quality as the older ones, but they are made in Mexico with lower quality metal. You can allegedly get as much as 10-20% more hp out of just good, proper machining and quality metals in the parts you are using. I can't remember where I read that, but I believe it nonetheless.

Another thing to remember is that the evolution of hot rods came from people swapping parts from other vehicles onto their vehicle. At its inception it was common place to see hot rods that were assembled with parts from many different manufacturers. If the part they desired didn't exist they made it. This is how companies like Edelbrock, Isky, Hilborn and many others came to be. A true hot rod isn't necessarily going to be all Ford, Mopar, Chevy or any other manufacturer. It may contain parts from several manufacturers and/or custom parts that were fabricated. It doesn't make them any less of a hot rod. In fact, they more closely emulate the true meaning of hot rod.

You have a valid point. I still hate seeing a sbc in a Mopar though.

Here's how hypocritical I am though: I know a guy with a SBC in an early 80's Mazda RX-7 and I have absolutely no problems with that.

That's because he took the rotary out of the Mazda and put it into a Toyota Corolla. He needed to make the Mazda move again.
