I grew up in Central Washington, attended college in eastern Washington, and have been in the Puget Sound area since 1982. I worked for the Forest Service during summers in the Snoqualamie National Forest while working on my degree in forestry. If you like the "How the earth was formed" thing I would recommend the Pacific Crest Trail which extends from Mexico to Canada and passes through the Mt. Stuart range between Cle Elum and Leavenworth in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area with hundreds of sub-alpine lakes, meadows and rock outcrops. To the east, anywhere along the Columbia river you can check out Basalt formations like Columnar joints and Plateaus. Our geology was formed after a huge volcanic eruption in Montana (Yellowstone area) caused glaciers to melt causing a mud flow to travel all the way to the Pacific. You would also like the Canadian Rockies in Banff, Alberta Canada. A cruise ship through The Inside Passage is the best way to check out Alaska for first timers.

So you are a Native Washingtonian! Cool. Yeah I'm gonna start planning some W/E trips. Even one down to Navada!

Congratulations JC. Your time will be worth the investment in your future. I assume your goal is employment with Boeing or one of their vendors. They have a strong anchor here and their forecast is promising. Contracts for 737s, 777s, and 787s are firm and will keep their employees working well into the future.
