Couple weeks ago I got into a bid war with a few of my coworkers, a shop employee needed a raise and he didn't know how to go about it, I somehow got cocky and said I'll teach you but every one that heard me laughed and they put a $100 on the table saying you walk in that office and prove us wrong or you owe each one the amount the bid!

LoL I decided to test fate and started to walk to the office, on my way there an idea hit me and I wrote a number on a paper and pocketed it. I walked in to the Vice President office and put the paper folded on his desk. I then said " I know you can beat it, and I say that not only because I managed to save you nearly a quarter million by being under budget on all my project the last 12 months but Because you and I both know I can double that number the next 12 months"

He opened the paper and said if you don't mind me asking who offered you this? I said if you really need to ask me that, i'll have the CEO personally hand write you a thank you letter, and you know what the letter is for. He stared at me for a few seconds and said we'll discuss this later. I got up, shook his hand and walked out.

On my way out for the day, that evening the CEO approached me and asked if I had any thing going on after work, I said no he said lets go out for dinner. Sure enough I went to a very fancy Resturant and the CEO & VP are waiting for me. During dinner the discussion was " from CEO: I'd like to offer you $xx,000 under one condition, you forget about this nonsense of job shopping and you stay with us a few more years" I obviously accepted the offer, then I proceded to pay for the dinner and soon I was on my way home.

This past Friday I got the direct deposit and I'm not gonna lie I was jumping for joy. I've managed to earn myself a 40% pay raise of what I was earning. This raise puts me at 6 figures net, before that I was 5 figures gross.

To everyone's believe I lost the bet and I actually paid out the lost bet lol but to this day I'm still in shock!!! I gotta say I achived a dream I never had.

Ps. I actually semi control the shop employee pay rate and during dinner I mentioned his name and informed them how good he was and I did not want to lose him. They know what I ment and he recived a $5 increase in his hourly rate He will never know it was me and I'll keep it that way.

 

Well there you go, good job for believing in yourself. It's the rare bird who can convey their self with a bluff or confidence to their boss and achieve their goal. Your supervisor on the other hand had to have respected your work habits or he would have let you walk. Now for that you need to promote a positive image to your subordinates so that they to will work diligently for the company. Congrats, didn't you just buy a house too? I see a new Persian rug in your future...
