from the net

"
Is My Cancer in Remission?
The term "complete remission" is typically used by oncologists when the cancer is no longer detected after chemotherapy or radiation treatment. If the oncologist tells you that your cancer is in "partial remission", this means that your cancer has shrunk and stopped growing, but still remains. At this point, your oncologist should reassess your treatment plan. It is possible that the cancer may have shrunk enough to be operable. "
