im not great with a stick, haha, thats another reason why i jumped on that talon, its a 5 speed so imma practice with it 'caus even though im not great at driving a stick, i prefer them. more durable, you can hold the gears as long as you like, you can downshift instead of braking constantly... so i intend to learn to be better!

Yeah, I'm so-so; I do ok in day to day traffic, but I still go a bit easy/slow at WOT.

I learned on an old Mazda MX3, didn't do it for years and got out of practice a little. Started working at Circuit City in car audio and obviously not every car is automatic, so I had to get used to it again- just taking off 1st and reverse.

Then I borrowed a old early 90s F150 from a buddy when I went to do my L67 swap (had to get the engine across town), and it was a manual- didn't do so well in that thing, they put a clutch in the week prior and the clutch wasn't adjusted properly. I remember having to drive up a large hill to get there- stoplight at the bottom- and we unfortunately got stuck at it. Took off in 1st a little quick to build some speed (the whole thing was a rusty POS so it didn't have much guts as is)- shifted to 2nd and was doing ok, about halfway through second we were in the meat of the hill and the clutch started slipping- rpm started climbing and mph started falling; I shifted to 3rd slowly in the hopes that the clutch would cool enough to grab if I let off quickly (we were a little too high rpm for 2nd anyways)- and that made it worse- I barely made it to a church driveway about 3/4 up the hill- and we creeped in at maybe 10mph and 4000 rpm in 3rd. I didn't know what else to do- there was tons of traffic, so I couldn't stop or back down, and there were very few turnoffs. Let the truck cool off for awhile, and got a running start from the side of the hill and managed to make it the rest of the way.

Most fun car to drive was my buddy's LS2 gto with the T56.

its a nice feeling to have but not in a daily driver.
I agree- it is fun, but I wouldn't really enjoy doing that every single day.

I also think that manual transmissions will get more and more rare in the US as more people grow up with automatics, and more manual cars convert to 'flappy paddle' electriconic shifting due to the speed advantage of a computer and having every clutch and shift point complete perfectly.

Well I call it driving. Some may call it: "Grinding a few pounds off."

I learned in 1966 white 4-door Simca. I used to pull the car in and out of the garage for my dad. When I was 11 years old. I drove (illegally mind you) on the streets when I was 12. My dad was riding shotgun the times I did this.

But YES.

YES.

YES.

YES.

And this one will be.

To answer your question.

I'm very good at driving a manual. My Honda's a 5 speed, and honestly, I love driving it every day.

I started driving with a 78 Chevy Chevette, 4 cyl. 4 speed and it only got better from there:

65 Impala SS 283/4speed
67 f250 300/4 speed
76 Camaro RS 350/4 speed
70 Camaro 350/4 speed
79 Camaro Z/28 350/4 speed
73 Corvette 350/4 speed
83 Mercury Capri 302/4 speed
76 Ford f250 390/4 speed
78 Datsun 280Z 6 cyl/5 speed
81 Mazda rx7 rotary/5 speed
73 Chevy K2500 350/4 speed
83 Toyota Celica 4 cyl/5 speed
77 Trans Am 400/4 speed
79 Datsun f10 4 cyl/5 speed
84 Firebird 6 cyl/5 speed
68 Camaro 283/4 speed
86 Buick Sommerset 4 cyl/5 speed
79 f150 highboy 302/4 speed
89 Beretta GTZ quad/5 speed
83 BMW 633 csi I6/5 speed
69 Chevy K2500 350/4 speed
76 Trans Am 400/4 speed
67 Camaro 350/4 speed (not the same as the 67 below)

I'm sure I missed a few, but I prefer a manual tranny. I am converting my 87 Monte to a 6 speed, My 67 Camaro is also going to be a 6 speed, and I am currently working on a purchase of another Trans Am, a 78 with a 400 and 4 speed. I think I will need to sell my 84 Grand National to get the T/A though.

OH. If we're suppose to list "ALL" cars we've driven that were manuals I missed a couple.

Like a couple 1st gen Stangs my friend Mike owned when we were teenagers. I drove every one of them his parents bought for him. And I believe I drove the two 1st gen Stangs his parents owned as well at some point.

There was a '72 Chevy truck a former girlfriend's uncle owned. We'd borrow his truck to haul stuff in.

There as a completely cooooooooooool all factory '67 Chevelle 396, 4-speed, 4:11 posi rear a former friend owned. This car would go sideways............ not that I know from experience mind you.

There was my other 210 4-door Sedan '57 that I owned. It was a 235 6 cylinder, 3-speed on the column. I parted the car due to rust issues but kept as much as possible. For my other '57s. I plan on using the drive train in my windowed Sedan Delivery cause the numbers match and to me will add value to my Delivery.

That's all I can remember at this time.

I know how, but I prefer my automatic.

Just more fun to cruise with the windows down and not have to worry about shifting. One arm out the window getting an uneven tan...
