Diesel swapping a 95-06 monte carlo? Would that be possible?
Now I know this sounds a little bizarre, but for some unknown reason I was day-dreaming when out of the blue I thought of how volkswagen has their fwd diesel vehicles and I thought “could you swap a v6 diesel into a fwd monte carlo and still keep it fwd?” Now I know that their motors are inline-fours but I was thinking about the RAM Eco diesel and I started getting even more intrigued. And now I’ve been on the most procrastination-backed adventure I’ve had in a while and I’ve been trying my hardest to find some answers to this question, but the most I can find is exclusively for trucks or the volkswagen brand. I am honestly curious if a v6 diesel swap could be possible on a monte carlo. Now obviously I don’t want to do this myself considering the price would be expensive but if anyone knows if this is possible I’d love to find out more because this really sparks my interest.
Obviously getting something compact enough to fit in the stock engine bay would be best / easiest, but Audi has several V6 diesels in normal sized cars so that shouldn't be an issue at all to find something that physically fits.

Id imagine it probably wouldn't be too crazy expensive if you could DIY everything and used mostly junkyard parts. But if you had to drop it off at a shop and open the check book, it could get real stupid real quick, especially considering what else you could've bought with that money.
The thing I wonder- whats the allure to wanting to go diesel? And why the want to keep it FWD?
I get they make a lot of torque relative to power which certainly makes sense if youre towing heavy loads or climbing some ultra steep, slow speed hills offroad. But a monte can't do either of those at all.
The power/ torque they make can easily be had with drop in engine options, and keeping FWD limits how much you can really use anyways.
I also get they're more efficient, but most anything is going to be significantly more efficient than a 80s/90s GM v6. The cost of a swap like that would far outweigh any mileage gains. Any newer DI GM gas turbo 4 would probably yield close enough efficiency and be notably easier to swap into another GM vehicle.

Honestly I would never actually diesel swap but this was more a hypothetical situation. I would agree that the price would be quite high and at that point you should just buy a used Duramax for a bigger diesel engine haha. Thanks for the replies though I was just super bored
