Holy jumping Tadd, I just saw this thread and can't believe what has happened to your car. I will have a moment of silence for Deuce just on general principle. I hope your luck starts to turn for the good.

Glad to hear they are going to repair it for you, but like you said get everything in writing.

Hurts to see that pic, so sorry Tadd... I am sure she will be back at her former glory in no time... That wheel not coming off in a much more dangerous situation is the blessing... Definately someone looking out for you... Our cars are repairable and replaceable, you are not... Hoping for all the best for you and your family...

Man, that sucks!!! Glad you are safe and it doesn't have a tragic ending. Heartbreaking to see that!

Wow, that's a crazy one Tadd!

I work in a parts store. I sell bulk metric 12mm x 1.5 lug nuts all day long. When some calls looking for 5 lugs for an '07 Monte Carlo, 9 times out of 10 the customer will opt for the cheaper $1 per bulk chrome nut over the direct OE style $5-10 Dorman one. Even the dealerships

Your OE one probably looked like these.

But changing to aftermarket wheels may have made it impossible to use nuts with a large shoulder like that.

Any 12x1.5 nut with a 60 degree seat should work, as long as the stud doesn't bottom out in the cap and it has acorn seat like this:

... as opposed to this:

...not for aluminum wheels!

The bulk ones look just like this:

... which are a little shorter, but wouldn't likely give you problems.

Some aftermarket wheels require nuts with different dome seats or shank/ mag seats. As a parts guy, I most definitely consider it the techs responsibility to ensure proper fitment with aftermarket wheels. The guy in the parts store can't see what the guy has there and has not idea about the aftermarket fitment.

When it rains, it pours. But at least you are safe and it didn't happen on the road somewhere. Best of wishes getting her back up and running.

I would imagine your going get her up in the air and give the Monte's under side a good once over. It could be ugly under there, front lip / side rail scuffed cracked etc., rotor damage and who knows what else. Going to be interesting to see the final tally of damage done from a simple wheel coming off at a relatively low speed.

I put all new ARP wheel studs on my Monte this past August. Just did not trust the 11 year old factory ones anymore considering how I drive the car.

man this just sucks Tadd I am glad you will get her fixed but thetas a tough hit for sure !!

Man, that sucks, bud!! Like you mentioned earlier, just gotta be thankful it happened then and not when you were "breaking her in" for the spring/summer! ;)
