Default Decision Made: Going to DC over Michigan

Well, I've decided due to the cost to go to Michigan for what it is vs. the chance to spend tiem with classmates in Washington, DC for the price (appprox. 1/3), I'm going to DC. I pay my $50 deposit tomorrow. Here is the travel itinerary:

Day One: Thursday, April 10, 2008

6:00 a.m. Leave JF Webb 6:00 a.m.

10:00 a.m. Arrive in D.C., visit Capitol Building, White House, and the Supreme Court Building

6:30 a.m. Dinner at Hard Rock Cafe

8:00 p.m. Night tour of Lincoln, WWII, Vietnam, Jefferson, and FDR Memorials

10:30 p.m. Check into the Hotel

Friday, April 11, 2008

8:00 a.m. Depart for National Archives

10:00 a.m. Visit Smithsonian Air & Space and Natural History Museums

5:00 p.m. Dinner and shopping at Union Station

7:00 p.m. Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves

Saturday, April 12, 2008

8:00 a.m. Depart for Arlington Cemetary

11:00 a.m. Visit the National Zoo

3:00: Depart for Oxford, NC

6:00: Stop for a fast food dinner

9:00 Arrive at JF Webb High School

Well, sorry, had to take the trip... $200 vs. close to $600 to go to Michigan.

Good choice, Cowboy. I think every American should go to Washington, D.C. at least once. You'll never regret it.

BTW, WHY would you go to Michigan?

You should try to squeeze-in the F-B-I and the Treasury too. There's some real interesting exhibits to look at at the FBI and you can either watch them print or burn millions of dollars at the Treasury Building.

Smithsonian Air and Space is a Great choice!

this trip is the same weekend as Montes @ MIS. I figured with 2 nights in a hotel, gas to up and back, and the registration, it would be a close to $600 trip. I've been to DC twice. In 5th grade we went to the national treasury, the American History Museum, and the Archives. In 8th grade we went to the Holocaust Museum (that one is a real eye opener), Union Station mall, and the Capitol building. I love going to DC (ON FIELD TRIPS, IT SUCKS IN AN 18 WHEELER). So much history... when you tour the capitol building, you go into the old HoR chamber... and when you stand there, you think off all the decisions that were made in that room... it's quite amazing to me, but maybe I'm just being geeky.

I don't know how many people are going yet. I'm guesing 20 will go. On my 5th and 8th grade trips, they were rushed. We would leave at like 4:00 a.m., go to DC, arive around 10 and leave around 4 that afternoon. They were so rushed we didn't get to enjoy the things we wanted to. I'm hoping spending close to 3 days will allow me to do this. I'm looking forward to it.

Perhaps we can do the Montes @ MIS thing next year

At least you made the decision you feel you want.

Hope you have a good time in DC.

The times I've been it always turned into a fight cause navigating the streets can be a royal pain in the trunk lid.

I am glad you made a decision, and as long as YOU feel it's the right decision, then it IS the right decision. There will be other years for you to do Monte's at MIS, and you probably won't get another chance to do the DC trip with your classmates again. I would've made the same decision.
Hope to meet up with you another time. Enjoy DC.

I remember when you first asked this question a couple months back. You mentioned how you went in grades 5 and 8, and how rushed those trips were. I think you made the right decision. There's a big difference between then and now. You're older now, and able to fully understand and appreciate the significance of everything. Plus, you have lots more time to see more sights and spend more time at them.

Looks like a pretty good itinerary. I doubt they allow camerasin The White House, but hopefully you're able to bring a camera to most of the sights. If so, bring an extra memory card or two. Did they say anything about potentially meeting President Bush or Vice President Cheney while at the White House? That would be kinda cool.

Hope you enjoy your trip!
