<!-- AddThis Button END --> The 2014 Corvette Stingray is causing a stir in the auto-world with its daringly sleek design and 455-horsepower eight-cylinder engine.
Beginning at a base price of $52,000, the Corvette has been gifted with an all-new design, featuring completely redesigned headlights and a daringly angular profile. The car is undoubtedly handsome, but it has many Corvette loyalists on-edge.
“The back end takes a bit of getting use to and overall the car is a bit too heavy on the aggressive-side for my taste,” said long-time Corvette owner and enthusiast Christopher Hickey.

The Corvette Stingray and its Elders

“In my mind, Corvette designs should be a cross between a roadster and a muscle car — one that can be driven fast but also leisurely down a winding country road. That being said, the engine, interior, and techno upgrades are A+. It’s a winner. [I'm] not going to get one, but it’s a winner,” added Hickey.
Hickey could be hitting the nail on the head where Corvette loyalists are concerned. While he and others may not invest in the Stingray, makers are hoping this new design will inspire a whole new generation of Corvette enthusiasts.
According to R.L. Polk & Co., from 2008 to June of 2013, only 2.6 percent of Corvette buyers have been 34-years-old and younger. More than half of registered owners during this period were 55 and older. ”We’re trying to get away from that,” explains Josh Holder, Corvette engineering manager. “Our customer base is going to die off.”
This statement is blunt — maybe even cutting — but it rings true to chief engineer Tadge Juechter, who dared to take bold risks when he developed the Corvette Stingray.
“We took some of the best aspects of racing and integrated them into this car,” Juechter recently told Fortune Magazine. ”We took the best ideas we could find… this car’s body is stiffer than it’s ever been, allowing the driver to feel confident.”
Corvette Stingray Interior

LA Times auto writer David Undercoffler briefly test-drove the car and concluded that General Motors has “hit the mark” with its new release.
“This 2014 Corvette isn’t a small car,” writes Undercoffler. Its heaviness allows for road-hugging cornering and increased precision. Additionally, the Stingray comes with either a seven-speed manual gearbox or six-speed automatic transmission.
Car and Driver’s assessment is also quite positive, giving the Stingray an A+ for effort, and straight A’s for execution.

I typed up a reply, but apparantly it didn't stick. And I really don't have the time to retype the whole thing on my iphone right now.

That one you posted is undoubtedly not a 52K model. I like it but wouldn't pay that for it. They are crazy, there is a reason people are 55 and older who own them. Working at McDonalds isn't going to buy one....LOL

I originally didn't like the design but, like the camaro, it is growing on me fast. You can still tell it's a vette but it looks more "ripped" almost like it went to the gym for a while and got well....ripped. I can't say I would pay for one since for that money you can get a really nice Dodge challenger with the 392 hemi which I like way more.

GM is going to have a real problem selling that Corvette, or any Corvette, to a younger crowd. GM is notorious for over pricing their vehicles. But especially Corvettes. Corvettes are out of the price range of most people's budget. Not just the sticker price. But the cost of insurance, maintenance and repair also. Parts for a Vette are a lot more expensive than other cars.

Around here, Corvettes are labeled a "mid-life crisis car". Simply because here in Canada, they start around the $80,000 mark new. And it's mainly middle aged to older men that own them. People with enough disposable income to own a super expensive car they only drive in good weather 4 months out of the year. (we get winters here)

Unfortunately, around here, most Corvette owners get laughed at and labeled as going through a mid-life crisis. I'm not saying it's right. But that's the way it is in my area.

I would love to own one of the Vette's that Space posted in the first post. But I'm one of those people who will never be able to afford the purchase price and the cost of insurance and upkeep. So it'll never happen. Besides, I don't feel like getting laughed at, and being labeled as going through a mid-life crisis.

GM can re-design the Corvette till the cows come home. But until they lower the price (A LOT!!!), younger car buyers will not be buying a Corvette.

But GM wants to keep the price high, in order to keep the prestigious image of the Corvette. They want to keep the appeal to the elite car buyer. They say they're trying to attract a younger buyer. But what they really want is younger RICH people to buy them.

They're not interested in appealing to the general public. People like us. Who like to wrench on our cars, modding them, making them faster and customizing them our own way. That's why they re-introduced the Camaro. For what GM considers common folk.

GM wants younger, rich, car buyers to buy the new Corvette. But people in that demographic are more likely to buy a high end import. Like a BMW for example. That's why GM will continue to struggle with Corvette sales.

I would love to own one, but by the time I could honestly afford to purchase and maintain one, I would be retired and have to sell my house, and live in the car no but I don't think I could honestly justify the purchase price for them, they are beautiful and powerful but at the same time the price tag just looms over your head. If and when I buy one, it will probably be a 2014 but the year I purchase will probably 2027 when you can pick one up at a reasonable price for what you are getting.

Young people won't be buying a corvette(or even any car) any time soon unless they're very lucky.

Thanks Member's for your post/votes & comments!
Lou, you made some valid points.

I really love the new 2014 Corvette Stingray's &
can't wait to see one & hopefully get to drive one.

I know that many performance rides are over $40K + and
the new Camaro ZL1 are close or over $50K.
There must be some out there that have the funds to get them.
I don't think that they all will be sitting in dealers inventory.

Dear `Santa, I know that you are a Member & I just wanted you
to know that I've been really good this year & `if you can't
get me a StingRay, I'd be really happy to get the below
I would even help you deliver gifts >
