agreed, running an ethernet wire would not be practical or cost effective. I'll have ot check out tiger direct. Usually i use new egg for all my computer stuff.

went to best buy today to see if they had the rocket fish powerline networking kit and no luck. Figures, all the others they had weren't as good, either they didn't have 4 ports or the speed was slower etc... So i ordered it from bestbuy online, didn't want to but i didn't want to settle either. Should be here next week.

When I worked for Comcast I stocked Asoka powerline network items. They were better than the last kind and were in high demand by the techs. I think AT$T also sends them out in self install kits under the Uverse label. People often re-sell them on eBay or Craigslist.

Funny you should mention the powerline networking. I just picked this up from Newegg and I just got it yesterday:

It is FANTASTIC. I was skeptical about the whole powerline networking thing, but it works so well. Having wireless in my bedroom wasn't ideal because of the distance, and running a cable would be unsightly. Decided to get that powerline networking kit and couldn't be happier. I'm getting the same download speeds as the basement computer hooked up directly to the router.

Awesome, all the reviews i've read equate to about the same. People are amazed and happy with the speed. Hopefully it works good for me, and the 4 port switch on the one i ordered will be great too

Definitely, the 4 port one would be very useful for multiple computers. Good luck with the whole setup, looking good!

picked up 2 more things today, a new cover for the light switch in there and a portable work light for some added light. I must say this thing is awesome, its crazy bright and is rechargable. Has a magnetic hook with 2 points you can use to hang it from. Pretty cheap too, be great for anyone needing some more light.

Shop Bayco LED Portable Work Light at Lowes.com=

*professor farnsworth* "Good news everyone!" The powerline networking kit came in today while i was at work. Got home, late as it was i HAD to go try it. Plugged it in by the router and ran out there and hooked it up and got nothing..... I saw it had a connection but there was no internet. I started thinking mayb the computer has an issue so i brought my laptop out there and hooked it up. Success!!

Then for the heck of it i tried the old wireless bridge i previously bought and that worked too lol. So i'll probably sell the bridge as it had a slowed speed than the powerline kit. I got 7mb/s download out there. Sitting in my room on wifi i get 20 mb/s. Its a considerable loss but with some tweaking i think i can boost it a bit.
