Chevy Thieves Take 4 Classics Over The Weekend
Two Impalas, a 57 Bel Air snatched up without paying at auctions, and this real nice Corvette rolled away from a hotel in my home town. The whole car week of events is a real cool time to live in Monterey - there are many free admission events to go to and even the rolling show of hundreds of unusual classics, rods, exotics on the streets all week is a joy.
Ticks me off that the police chief says it's unusual for cars to be stolen during the events. The same thing happens when the Moto GP races are in town, motorcycles are stolen left and right.
I feel real bad for the Vette owner - see the thread on what looks like a sister site for Corvette enthusiasts.

1962 Corvette Stolen in Pacific Grove - Corvette Forum

A fourth stolen car report surfaced Wednesday involving a vintage vehicle taken during Classic Car Week.
Pacific Grove police said Wednesday that an El Dorado County resident reported his 1962 red Corvette vanished after he parked it late Saturday at a bed and breakfast.
The theft apparently occurred between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m., police Cmdr. John Miller said.
The owner said he parked at the lodging in the 300 block of Central Avenue and discovered the car missing an hour later when a friend came by.
The car owner said whoever took it must not have started the engine because he said "he would have heard if it was fired up," Miller said.
Three other vintage cars — two 1961 Chevrolet Impala convertibles and a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air — were reported stolen from auction lots over the weekend in the Monterey area.
Law enforcement officials say it is unusual for cars to be stolen during the annual event that brings scores of the world's most special cars to the Monterey Peninsula at various venues.

Hi Barovelli, & thanks for posting/sharing & reminding `us that there is always Bad people in our world. It's sad
& I hope the thieves get caught & sentenced to a Bad Place 4 Bad People That 62 `Vette is awesome...If I had possession of those cars, I'd have full time security around them with order's to > Shoot any attempts to tamper or take any of my rides...
Sometimes, ok, many times it is stressful to have a nice ride & worry about someone hurting `it or taking `it...I hope there's a special place in hell for people like this...

I remember a thief drove away with one of the cars for the Detroit Auto Show a couple years ago. I think it was a Mercedes if I remember correctly. Took advantage of that vulnerable time when the cars are being off-loaded from the trucks, and are sitting outside in the staging area waiting for their turn to go inside.
That's what happens when people just assume "he must work here".

That would suck to have your car stolen, especially a rare classic. I dont know how they do it, I'd be too scared to get caught. I knew a guy that would take guns from stores like kmart and just walk out the front door with them. Around here they just had them on the shelf behind the counter so he would wait until the staff was busy and he'd grab one and stick some paid tape on it and off he'd go. Nobody even ever stopped him
Corvette found - a bit beat up but it's back in the hands of it's owner
