Default brakes are alittle funky

thy stop fine and theres no grinding but it feels like theres alot of deadzone and then not much extra play once it starts to stop compared to slamming them. my front rotors and pads are a year and a half old i dont know if the drums in back need service maybe?? i just want to avoid issues and mechanic had it up in the air to fix the exhaust heat shield (what mad it sound louder he just bent it back). he didn't notice anything with them maybe its just me

You might need to get the fluid flushed or bled

If you are comfortable to drive, then it can wait. At least check the fluid though, make sure you aren't low

mine doe the same thing, alot of travel in the pedal before you actually apply the brakes. I know im in need of rear brakes soon so i'd assume worn brakes are the cause for me.

Expect the brake fluid reservoir to be a little low if the brakes are worn. Should you top it off now and then later when installing new pads compress the wheel cylinder, the now excess fluid will be forced to overflow out from underneath the reservoir cap making a fair amount of a mess to clean up. Brake fluid does not do any good on painted surfaces and all over the frame etc. . If the reservoir seems excessively low then fill it to perhaps about 3/4 full.

Since you mentioned it takes a good bit of pedal(pressure) to get it to start to stop..

Not to mention its been a year and half..since your last maintenance....

Ever considered they might be glazed over?
Glazed over brakes require an excessive amount of brake pressure to get the vehicle to stop.

Example:
Drag raceing...
Driveing 2 footed...(dragging the brakes)
Hard launch and stops? (in traffic)
Racing from one stop sign to the next etc etc...

Just a thought..
