I'm starting to shop for a new laptop. My current one is 5+ years old and I'm tiring of the lines of dead pixels on the screen.:p Plus sometimes you have to fold it open just right to get it to light up. Other than that it works well. I doubt its worth investing the cash on a new screen. I'd like a new laptop, as cheap as possible of course. All I basically do is surf the web and watch video with it, so I guess it doesn't have to be super-powerful. What do you think of this one for $399?

It kind of kills me to think that's $400+ I could be spending on the car, but I think its time.

Hey, what are ya doing with the old one? I know of a 10 year old that is in need of one just to surf the net for school research projects etc and have her own email. PM me if you are just gonna get rid of it. Doesnt have to be perfect. I live in NJ. Thanks.

Looks good to me. I bought a Toshiba for my son from Walmart $398 Xmas before last. It too is a Satellite. Its has been good and has a great picture on screen. Better than my 5 year old Dell I am using. For most of us it would be great.

For web surfing and the like you should be fine... It's Windows 7 (which is nice). 4 gigs of memory is perfect for Windows 7 (they recommend 2 gigs minimum).
Built in wi-fi card that goes to N will give you fast internet speeds (provided you have an 'N' band router)
The only thing I don't like is the processor (AMD Athlon™ II Dual-Core Mobile Processor P340) it's only a 2.2 GHz (which would be okay since it's a dual core) however, I just feel AMD is a little... lazy. I prefer Intel.
But for your purposes you won't have a problem, and for the price you're getting a really good deal.

I've considered netbooks, but I watch a lot of movies and TV shows and I'm not sure I'd like the smaller screen.
