Default Arizona trip :)

so far our trip is going great. But we think were going hit bad weather in flagstaf,AZ. Forecast for up to a foot of snow at 5000 ft down to 2000 ft level. were in Anarillo,Tx for the night. Watching the Vikes & Eagles game. looks like we might be spending the night tomorrow in flagstaff till they clear the rds going down the mtn. With a 6% grade. I'm sure in the Hell not going to try it. But its been fun so far. 56 when we got in here tonight

Have a safe trip, Rick. Flagstaff can get hammered with snow this time of year. Even more so if you drive north toward the Grand Canyon. It may be Arizona, but it's at a high elevation. Gets cold up there! Enjoy.

Be safe man. I did that trek between Flagstaff and Kingman in Feb of this year. We did it in White Out conditions in my Van pulling a U-haul trailer with all of our stuff. We left the ice in Oklahoma just to be hit with snow. LOL It was the most excitement i ever had. I think my heart was beating so fast, it would run a small city. LOL.

There is another storm here in Vegas right now. I hope it doesn't affect you too much man.

Good luck- and if I were you, if the mountain areas just got nailed with snow- I'd wait until they get it cleared.

I just did the trip from IN to Phoenix back on Thanksgiving (going through Amarillo, Albuquerque, etc) and ended up getting really screwed coming down the mountains (granted I started heading south at Holbrook instead of going all the way to Flagstaff). By the time I hit the first descent (iirc a 6% grade), it was nearly a blizzard, and the roads had completely iced over. The people in front of me got in a wreck, and my uhaul (a 17' with the monte in tow on a full flat trailer) was increasing speed even with all wheels locked up (and I almost had the thing dead stopped before it started sliding again)- I ended up having to run off into the dirt (planned on scraping the side of the mountain to stop if I had to) to keep it from continuing to accelerate. Finally got it stopped, and nearly got rear ended on the side of the road because the people behind me couldn't stop either.

Ended up getting stuck for almost 2 hours before the plows started coming through dropping cinders and plowing the snow off- and even then, I saw a bunch of wrecked cars over the next 20 miles or so as I slowly followed the plow down the mountain.

Definitely was stupid on my part to push on despite the winter storm warnings, trying to make the trip without stopping. Whatever you do, play it safe- its not worth trying your luck just to lose a day of travel. Enjoy the scenery up there too, its very pretty in the winter!

Default made it this far !

Well it's been the longest day so far. Glad this one is over. Left Amarillo this morning after watching the weather channel. We didn't like what we Heard on there. So we made other travel plans. Drove to Albuquerque,N.M. Then took 25 south to Las Cruces,N.M. Then headed west on i 10. Drove to Tucson. From a little ways past las Cruces we hit rain hard rain. Driving at night with the glare of head lights from the front & back isn't fun. Then the temps strated to drop. From 60 to 36. If it went any lower I was going to pull over some place for the night. Scared the rds might freeze over. But thats the lowest they went. Thank God. Abou 45 mins before our exit. it stopped. WOW!!! ... Got to the Marriott. Wish they had a bar. Cause i could use a couple of shots of captain by now. But I have to settle far a coffee. . It's 9:45 pm. Were only a couple hrs from Surprise,Az. So NO hurry in the monring. Going to stop at the Harley dealer in Tucson. And bye a few things. Then go on to our place. 14 hrs on the rd. Too much today. But glad we made it this far. Now we can relax tomorrow. Theres a bottle of Captain in my future!!! I'll check in tomorrow for more up dates. I want to watch the news about falgstaff tonight. C ya all later. Hey I've made that trip down from Flag many times. Never in the rain or snow. And never plan too. It's bad enough as it is dry!! GOOD NIGHT ALL.zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Glad you made it to your stopping point safe and sound. I lived in flagstaff for awhile and it can get interesting.
